Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made inspections at the Kilyos Tunnel construction site. Minister Uraloğlu, in his statement after the examination, emphasized that they have carried out major studies on the main transportation arteries, which can be called the aorta of Istanbul, and that they have implemented giant projects in every mode of transportation.
Minister Uraloğlu reminded that there was a lot of controversy in the construction of Istanbul Airport, as in every project they carry out, and reminded that Istanbul Airport was built due to a great need. Minister Uraloğlu said, “However, they criticized this project with a political stance rather than a need. Today, our project is the first in Europe and the sixth largest airport in the world. Last year, we had 78 million people travel. "Our target is 200 million and we continue the construction of the new terminal building and runways for it," he said.
Meanwhile, Minister Uraloğlu also pointed out that there is an earthquake risk in Istanbul and said, “We have taken all our precautions regarding transportation structures for the Istanbul earthquake. We strengthened the old ones. We suspended the decks of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and 15 July Martyrs Bridge and rebuilt them. We worked at night and made sure that our citizens of Istanbul did not notice. We have done all our work, from earthquake wedges to strengthening all viaducts. While we are planning what is needed in normal use, we are also making projects for how emergency aid teams and supplies will enter Istanbul in case of an earthquake and for the transportation of citizens. "We are planning for the next hundred years, not today or tomorrow," he said.
“KİLYOS TUNNEL WILL BE OPENED AT THE END OF 2026”
Stating that they have also started the construction of the Sarıyer-Kilyos Tunnel for the possible Istanbul Earthquake, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the tunnel, which will facilitate the access of the population living in the residential areas in the north of Istanbul to the city centers, will also serve for the evacuation of the region in the event of a possible Istanbul earthquake, and said: "Our project is Kilyos" It will start from the Black Sea, from the northern points of Istanbul, to Sarıyer, and from there to Beşiktaş, following the Çayırbaşı Tunnel. It will be able to serve all settlements on that route. It is one of the 'Two Tunnels on Two Sides' project, which can almost cross the European Side and which our President Murat Kurum also mentioned. When we finish this place in the first place, it will provide serious service. "Extending it to Beşiktaş is one of the things on our agenda," he said.
