18 Thousand 500 Students and Teachers Visited These Facilities in Manisa

In cooperation with Manisa Water and Sewerage Administration (MASKİ) General Directorate and Manisa Provincial Directorate of National Education, educational tours were organized throughout the province for students studying in Manisa to learn about the purification processes of water in Wastewater Treatment Facilities and its healthy discharge to nature. In this context, in February, 14 thousand 18 students and teachers in 500 districts had the opportunity to examine the wastewater treatment facilities successfully operated by MASKİ and learn the stages that wastewater goes through. MASKİ Deputy General Manager Gökhan Çevik and Branch Managers from the Wastewater Treatment Department Kürşat Kalemci, Onur Artan and authorized personnel accompanied the tours organized in 14 districts.

STUDENTS UNDERSTOOD THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER BETTER

The purification processes of water from households to facilities, ventilation pools and sedimentation tanks were explained in detail to 14 students and teachers who participated in the tour programs organized in 18 districts. Information was given about Continuous Wastewater Monitoring Units (SAİS). Samples were taken from the outlet water of each facility to show the difference between the inlet and outlet water, and information was given about the work done in the laboratories and the work follow-up through the SCADA system. Questions asked by students were answered. Additionally, students were given information about the professional groups working in wastewater treatment plants.

“IT IS IMPORTANT TO EXPLAIN OUR ENVIRONMENTAL FACILITIES TO FUTURE GENERATIONS”

MASKİ Deputy General Manager Gökhan Çevik said, “With the cooperation of our administration and Manisa Provincial Directorate of National Education, we have undertaken a meaningful project to create environmental awareness in the next generation. Within the scope of our project, we hosted 18 students and teachers in February in our wastewater treatment facilities, which are successfully operated within our administration, in line with the 'Cleaner Manisa' goal of our Metropolitan Mayor, Mr. Cengiz Ergün. During their wastewater treatment plant inspection tour, our students had the chance to observe all the processes related to the purification of domestic wastewater and its healthy release into the Gediz Plain. At the same time, our students had the opportunity to see different professional groups in the wastewater treatment plant working areas in terms of career choices. All of our students who participated in the trips also became owners of MABEM Card, one of the new education services of our Metropolitan Municipality. "We will continue to explain our environmentally friendly facilities to future generations," he said.
