CHP Deputy Öztürk Became the Voice of Bursa Çataltepe Victims

The future of Bursa's Kestel Çataltepe Industrial Site, which has not been completed for years, and the problems of the victims were brought to the Parliament with a parliamentary question submitted by Bursa Deputy Hasan Öztürk. However, the answers given by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change did not include any details regarding the solution of the problems or the elimination of the grievances.

The Çataltepe Tradesmen Industrial Site project, which was initiated by BESOB (Bursa Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen) in Bursa in 2008, could not be completed for 16 years. While 3 thousand tradesmen were victimized in the project, the current value of the expropriated land reached approximately 55 billion lira.

Republican People's Party Bursa Deputy Hasan Öztürk brought the issue to the Parliament with a parliamentary question, demanding that it be answered by the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate, Mehmet Özhaseki.

“MINISTRY ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS WITHOUT READING”

The Ministry responded to the parliamentary question submitted by Öztürk on October 20, 2023, 3 months later. The Ministry, which did not give a clear answer regarding the solution of the problems, responded with an answer as if it was stalling the victims of Çataltepe.

Regarding the Ministry's response, Hasan Öztürk said, "We asked 3 questions to our Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change regarding the 5 thousand tradesmen who were victimized and excluded from the system regarding the Bursa Kestel Çataltepe Tradesmen Industrial Site, but without reading these 5 questions at all, we only received a classic answer that explained the process. "The advisors of the ministry or the relevant department of the ministry who responded sent a text without reading the questions." He reacted to the response sent by the ministry.

“BURSA TEXTILER AND WEaver ARE BEING VICTIMIZED”

Stating that there is a significant victimization and that the textile and weaving tradesmen in Bursa, the textile and weaving city, are under serious distress, Öztürk said, “We have a really significant number of weavers who are victimized here too. Therefore, our solidarity for their rightful struggle will continue. We ask the Ministry to read the questions carefully and answer them. We will submit our questions once again on behalf of the Çataltepe Victims Association. "Let them answer the same questions by reading them carefully this time, because we will forward these questions to them until we get answers." said.

WHAT HAPPENED IN ÇATALTEPE?

In the project initiated by BESOB (Bursa Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen) in 2008 in Kestel, Bursa, with an expropriation fee of 3 million TL on an area of 62 million square meters, the project covering 3 thousand tradesmen was tendered for 129 million lira and 1 workplaces were built in the first stage.

Following the bankruptcy of the contractor, in 2018, with the guidance of TOKİ, 7 people, whose founding partners were BESOB, came together and established a cooperative called BESKOOP with a capital of 7 thousand TL. 3 million square meters of industrial land was transferred to BESKOOP free of charge in March 2019, without the knowledge of 3 thousand BESOB beneficiaries. While the cooperative has 444 members, only 3 of the 163 thousand tradesmen are the first beneficiaries. It was determined that the cooperative made profit-oriented negotiations through irregular transfer transactions to 281 people, most of whom were from outside the city or even from outside the country.
