Alper Gezeravcı Held His First Youth Meeting in Konya

Alper Gezeravcı, who spent 14 days at the International Space Station and conducted various experiments within the scope of Turkey's first manned space mission, met with students at Konya Science Center and held his first youth interview after completing his mission and returning to earth.

Children and young people of Konya showed great interest in the talk given by Turkey's first astronaut Gezeravcı at Konya Science Center, Turkey's first and largest science center supported by TÜBİTAK, which was brought to the city by Konya Metropolitan Municipality.

“I AM PROUD OF YOU”

Stating that they are proud to successfully complete one of the 10 auspicious programs that Turkey has set in the field of space, Gezeravcı advised young people not to give up on their dreams and said:

“When I was a child your age and saw something about space on much more limited television and cinema opportunities, I would stop and take a step back when I watched it. These things we are watching are other nations' dreams, other people's dreams.
I would tell myself, 'Don't try to be happy with other people's dreams, hold on to whatever you have and just be happy with that.' With the vision of our President that sheds light on our new century, all of the 10 space-related strategic targets set by our Republic continue to reach the target by completing the maturation stages that will progress gradually. Never doubt your own potential. “I am proud of you.”

ANSWERED STUDENTS' QUESTIONS

During the interview, Gezeravcı shared his space experiences by talking about the days he spent on the International Space Station and also answered questions from the students who listened to him with excitement.

“KONYA SCIENCE CENTER IS A GREAT CENTER”

Gezeravcı, who made a statement after the program, had words full of praise for Konya Science Center. Gezeravcı said, “It is a wonderful center that has opened its doors to our brothers and sisters from all over our country, at the meeting point of all routes, that will answer all their questions about science and that will enable all the paths targeted in the new Turkey Century, where our country is stepping into its second year, and that contains all the research opportunities that will be instrumental in getting there.” " he said.

“THESE MEETINGS MAKE OUR YOUTH AWARENESS OF THE CAPACITY”

Stating that Turkish youth have a great capacity to show their presence in every environment with their energy and excitement, Gezeravcı said, “They may not be aware of this capacity. These meetings lead to this awareness. When I was their age, I couldn't imagine any of the things that are happening now. We have come to this day with the determination of our state. We have come to this day with the strong will of our country in this field and the belief of our statesmen that the children of this country have the right to live the dream that other nations are already living and that they should be stakeholders of this dream. "Hopefully, they will do much better work from now on," he said.

Stating that he was happy to share his experiences at the International Space Station in Konya, the first stop of the youth meetings, with future scientists, engineers and astronauts, Gezeravcı said, “My young brothers and sisters who dream of stepping into space should see this meeting as a source of inspiration and share their own success stories in the future.” "My greatest wish is that they write," he said.

Gezeravcı also thanked Mayor Altay, who brought Konya to where it is today with his good services and provided these opportunities.
