Spor İstanbul AŞ, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), continues to bring sports lovers together with sports with its 69 facilities and more than a thousand trainers and coaches. 35 percent of the participants in the events of Spor Istanbul, which has the title of being one of the largest sports centers in Turkey with one million users, were women and 65 percent were men. ISTANBUL BECAME THE CENTER OF SPORTS
Istanbul hosted 19 major sports events throughout the year. 111 thousand people ran, cycled, swam and camped in these events. The most spectacular of the events was undoubtedly the 45th İş Bankası Marathon, run with 45 thousand people and the slogan "Run of the Century". Istanbulites rushed into the second 100 years with a performance befitting the 100th anniversary of the Republic. 60 thousand 12 people from 300 different countries experienced the privilege of running in the Historical Peninsula at the Istanbul Half Marathon for the 18th time. Istanbul, which has taken important steps to become a cycling city, also hosted professional cycling tournaments. The four-stage Tour of Istanbul managed to rise from 2.2 to 2.1 category in its first year. In addition, bicycle lovers pedaled for the 4th time in the Historical Peninsula Bicycle Tour.
Ulugazi Oil Wrestling Festival, one of the legacies of the founder of the Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was held for the third time with a total of 64 wrestlers, 500 of whom were wrestlers. Heeding the call of "Walk, Istanbul", Istanbulites took 8 billion steps and walked every inch of Istanbul. Not forgetting disabled athletes, Spor Istanbul introduced hundreds of disabled people to sports at Cemal Kamacı, a sports complex with IMM's accessible facility certificate.
