Support from EBRD for Enerjisa Enerji's Investments in the Earthquake Zone

Enerjisa Enerji, Turkey's leading company in the electricity distribution, retail sales and customer solutions sector, leading Turkey's energy transformation with an impact-oriented sustainability approach, continues to work with all its strength for the reconstruction of the region after the February 6 earthquake disaster that shook Turkey.

In the regions negatively affected by the earthquakes that occurred on February 6 last year, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide credit support of up to 100 million dollars to support investments in the modernization and restructuring of Toroslar EDAŞ's electricity distribution network.

Reliable and stable energy for more than 163 thousand people

The earthquakes, which caused widespread damage and cost the lives of tens of thousands of people, also cost the lives of those living in temporary shelters. With the project, more than 163 thousand people living in regions affected by earthquakes will have access to reliable and stable energy.

Enerjisa Enerji, Turkey's leading electricity distribution, retail sales and customer solutions company, reaches more than 14 million customers in 10 different provinces and provides electricity service to 22 in every 4 people with the electricity distribution service it provides to more than 1 million people.

Enerjisa Enerji, an important private sector player in the Toroslar region, operating with its people, solution and innovation-oriented work and sustainable quality service approach in its areas of responsibility, has undertaken economic, social, cultural and civil support in the earthquake region in cooperation with the Regional Reconstruction and Development Center (RRDC). It aims to support the strategic planning of human capital, income generation and sustainable economic development initiatives for the restructuring and development of society.

Enerjisa Enerji's initiatives, in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will focus on programs in areas such as creating livelihoods for the affected people in the region, providing sustainable skills in agriculture and energy efficiency training modules, and will also be shaped by various projects aimed at workforce protection and employment. EBRD, which announced a two-year comprehensive support program worth 1,5 billion Euros after the earthquakes, will provide loans to individuals and companies affected by the earthquake, as well as incentives for infrastructure investments, small-medium-sized enterprises and private sector partnerships.

“We are aware of our responsibility towards our people”

Enerjisa Enerji CFO Philipp Ulbrich said: “The new loan agreement we made with the EBRD will be the driving force behind the reconstruction and modernization of the electrical infrastructure of our cities damaged in the earthquake in February. We are aware of our responsibility towards our people and this loan agreement; It is also part of our commitment to a long-term, sustainable energy future. This loan will help us rebuild the electrical infrastructure and will also contribute to the development of the region.

EBRD's support and willingness to cooperate with this project is a positive step for both our company and the people of the region. "While we thank the EBRD, we also express our gratitude to our colleagues at Enerjisa, who work with all their strength in the field to provide reliable and sustainable solutions that meet the energy needs of our people and play a major role in the success of this project." Thanks to the income obtained through the loan, Enerjisa Enerji will also be able to reduce energy losses and prevent 82 thousand tons of carbon emissions annually.

EBRD Eurasia, Middle East and Africa Energy Director Aida Sitdikova stated that she welcomed this cooperation and said, “Since the earthquakes, we have been working in close contact with our customers to move towards improvement and reconstruction in the region. “Our partnership with Enerjisa will ensure uninterrupted electricity distribution in the affected cities and support the restructuring of the region in a stronger and more sustainable way.” He expressed his views as follows.

To date, EBRD has invested more than 19,1 billion Euros in the Turkish economy, mostly in the private sector.
