It Concerns 1 Million People of Sakarya... It Will Be the First on Earthquake

In Sakarya, which is located on earthquake zones, the Metropolitan Municipality continues its work to make the physical structure of the city durable and ready for possible disasters. In this context, the "Disaster Early Warning System" supported by South Korea is being implemented in Sakarya in order to prevent the loss of life and property caused by natural disasters. Within the scope of the project, South Korea Smart Geotech officials started working in Sakarya to test the sensors.

FIRST TEST APPLICATION AT HENDEK BAKACAK

The "Disaster Early Warning System" project is being implemented in Sakarya within the scope of "Smart City Solutions" with the support of MOLIT of the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Officials of the Smart Geotech company, which will implement the project, came to Sakarya to test the device prototype. The delegation met with Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem Yüce and made a presentation about the details of the study.

These sensors will first be placed in pilot areas. The system, which has the ability to detect earthquakes underground early, will be able to notify authorities and citizens early. If the project is completed quickly, it will be of vital importance for 1 million Sakarya residents in the earthquake zone in case of an earthquake.

The first application will be in the Hendek-Bakacak landslide area. After the tests to be carried out in this region, these sensors will be placed to protect sensitive infrastructures such as water and natural gas lines. The movement of tremors that do not create an earthquake effect on the ground but cause destruction underground will be examined, and the construction of the infrastructure will be shaped according to the data obtained from these sensors.

Mass, slope and landslides that may occur as a result of ground movement will be instantly reported to AKOM through high-precision sensors to be placed, and these collected data will be analyzed and measures will be taken quickly. Thanks to these sensors, ground mobility can be detected early and precautions can be taken against the danger of loss of life and property, and risky settlements, group roads, strategic lines such as water and natural gas can be protected against landslides.

Mayor Ekrem Yüce stated that they will break new ground in Turkey regarding earthquake preparedness and said, “With our research and connections, we have reached the technology that will break new ground in Sakarya. The delegation from South Korea made a detailed presentation and started field work. We will be able to take serious precautions thanks to technology, which is of great importance for the infrastructure and superstructure projects we carry out. Underground water, natural gas and electricity infrastructures will be protected with data obtained from sensors and their locations will be reshaped accordingly. In addition, the part that is of vital importance for all our citizens is the early warning system. When it warns us of an earthquake early, we will be able to take immediate action. "We will share all developments regarding the process with our citizens soon," he said.
