Çandarlı Becomes the Production Center of Offshore Res

Coordination of Energy Industrialists and Businessmen Association (ENSIA), Offshore Wind Energy Association (DÜRED) and Turkish Shipbuilding Manufacturers Association (GİSBİR); "Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap and Industrial Inventory Promotion Meeting", prepared with the support of Izmir Development Agency, was held at Hilton Garden Inn Hotel.

“WE ARE NOT ENERGY POOR, BUT WE ARE POOR TO PRODUCE ENERGY”

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, which witnessed intense participation of companies in the wind energy sector, Izmir Governor Dr. Süleyman Elban pointed out that "Turkey is not an energy poor country, but a country poor in producing energy" and stated that very important achievements have been achieved in wind energy in 26 years.

Noting that Izmir should take its leadership in onshore wind energy even further with offshore wind power plants, Governor Elban emphasized that they are working seriously with the Ministry of Industry and Technology for Çandarlı Port to focus on equipment production in this field.

Reminding that DRESs have been used in clean energy production for many years in many countries of the world, Elban made the following assessment:

“OUR STAKEHOLDERS ARE ALSO DESIRED FOR ÇANDARLI PORT”

“It is clear how energy will be produced. There are no magic formulas regarding offshore RES. We are talking about an energy that is widely used in many countries of the world. We have been producing electricity from wind energy for 26 years. The point we have reached is not a point to be underestimated. We employ over 10 thousand people and export over 1 billion dollars. Izmir is a city with the first wing, the first tower, the first nacelle and the first R&D facility. We have no shortcomings. We are working seriously with our Ministry of Industry and Technology to use the Çandarlı Port region in the equipment production of Offshore WPPs. Our stakeholders also have serious desires in this direction. If we achieve this, we will gain serious momentum to reach the goals set by our Ministry of Industry and Technology faster. “If we achieve this, I think we will be one of the few countries in terms of both production, R&D and export income.”
