Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Selahattin Gürkan met with ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol and his accompanying delegation.
“We have been continuing our exchange of views and consultations regarding ASELSAN's investments in Malatya for a long time. We agreed that ASELSAN should make an investment and serve as a locomotive in the earthquake region. At the meeting we held under the chairmanship of our President, they asked us at what stage the work regarding the investment to be made by ASELSAN was. When we stated that the work was continuing, our President called our President of Defense Industries and said, 'Malatya is very important to us, we need to start operating quickly and heal the wounds of the earthquake to some extent.'
IT WILL BE THE LOCOMOTIVE OF THE REGION
Our President of Defense Industries sent a delegation and started a preliminary study on how to carry out rapid production here.
As a result of this study, we, as the Metropolitan Municipality, reached an agreement on an area of 5 thousand square meters within the Organized Industry, which is a closed factory for them. In the previous process, we allocated an area of approximately 600 decares within the borders of Fırıncı District for ASELSAN to invest. Our General Manager of ASELSAN, Mr. Ahmet, stated that there was a consensus that they wanted to start production as soon as possible and then carry out the production in a wider and more comprehensive manner. We thank them for their work. We are very pleased that a prestigious institution like ASELSAN invested in Malatya. Hopefully, this investment will be the locomotive of other investments.”
ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol said that they will make a significant investment in Malatya under the directive of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and under the coordination of the Presidency of Defense Industries. “ASELSAN Malatya's main areas of activity will be production, design and logistics. "We will quickly implement the first phase of ASELSAN Malatya, where we will start activities step by step," said Akyol, adding the following:

As a leading company in the defense industry, we have made investments in different parts of Anatolia in the past years. We have factories in Konya and Sivas. We also conducted feasibility studies for a sustainable, developable and long-term investment in Malatya. We went through a period where different alternatives were being studied in the background. We carry out all these activities under the directive of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and within the framework of the coordination of our Presidency of Defense Industries. With the new feasibility studies we have recently created, we have created an investment that will appeal to the region. With the meetings we held in the past few days, we have come to the point of starting work as soon as possible. Last week, our Defense Industry President Prof. Dr. During our meeting with Haluk Görgün, we shaped our decision to start the business. Today, we came to see the work done in Malatya. Malatya is also the headquarters of the 2nd Army. For this reason, we planned in the long term to make ASELSAN an important part of production in the region and to bring it to a position that includes many functions, including design and logistics base.”

Stating that they aim to start the activities as soon as possible, Mayor Gürkan said, “We want to increase the visibility, production and design of the activities here, step by step, under the umbrella of ASELSAN Malatya. Today we looked at alternative places and decided where to start first. Our friends will initiate the necessary activities in the coming days. Then, step by step, we will bring an investment worthy of Malatya and our country. ASELSAN produces with very high technology.
