Road Investment That Will Make History in Malatya

Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, which acts with the motto that the road is civilization and works intensively throughout Malatya in terms of transportation, continues to invest in the future of Malatya with its newly opened streets, boulevards and belt roads.

Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Selahattin Gürkan, who examined the ongoing works on the Northern Belt Road on site, underlined that approximately 100 kilometers of road work has been carried out, including outbuildings and connection roads, and said, "I would like to express that at least 10 times the total road investment in the history of Malatya has been invested."

Emphasizing that Malatya traffic will be relieved with the Northern Belt Road becoming operational, Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Road Maintenance and Infrastructure Coordination Department Head Mehmet Hakan Demir stated that the Belt Road is a very important artery for Malatya. Demir said, “The Northern Belt Road, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan World Apricot Trade Center, Licensed Cold Storage and Market Directorate will be in this region, and the existing industrial site will be moved, which will take a very significant load off all commercial buildings. Our work has reached its final stage. Our work to connect Yeşilçam Avenue and the Northern Belt Road continues. At the same time, our work continues in the Topsöğüt region. If the Northern Belt road is opened, it will relieve Malatya's traffic load and give our city a breath of fresh air. "I hope it will be beneficial in advance," he said.

“A ROAD AXLE OF APPROXIMATELY 100 KM WITH ITS FUNDAMENTALS”

Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Selahattin Gürkan said that new roads and boulevards were opened to ease Malatya traffic with the understanding of "Road is civilization" and stated that the Northern Belt Road will offer a safe and peaceful journey. In his statement, Mayor Gürkan said, “Since the moment we took office, we have carried out the expropriation process of these buildings, especially those located on the road axis, where personal parcels, personal properties and similar structures belong to the person on this road route. On the other hand, we worked intensively on how to find financing sources. Currently, the tender for nearly 10 kilometers has been made by JICA.

The discourses of the Southern and Northern Belt Roads and the Northern Ring Road have been rumored in Malatya for decades. No steps could be taken. After we took office, we realized that Malatya, which has a single artery and a single center, should have sub-centres and alternative roads, and that a city would not have any other development trend, so we built the roads of the sub-centres and sub-centres in the first place. Gelincik Hill was a subcenter. Necessary expropriation procedures were carried out on Güldal Akşit Boulevard, which has 2 departures and 2 arrivals, and traffic was relieved in areas where wedding halls and schools are located in the region. "At the same time, connection with the Northern Belt and Northern Ring Road was established via Elazığ road," he said.

“AT LEAST 10 TIMES THE TOTAL ROAD INVESTMENT IN MALATYA HISTORY”

Stating that citizens will travel in a healthy and safe traffic flow with the Northern Belt Road, Mayor Gürkan completed his speech as follows:

“Our city had only one artery. It was both an international road, an intercity road and the main street of Malatya. It was inevitable that a road carrying these 3 variations would be chaotic in traffic. When we took office, we started working on the opening of the main lines of the Northern Belt Road and the construction of the road, and the opening of the Southern Belt Road, Ana Yurt Boulevard, Danişmend Gazi Boulevard, Alp Er Tunga Boulevard as soon as possible. We eased traffic by opening Alp Er Tunga Boulevard and Danişmend Gazi Boulevard. We have reached the completion stage of the Northern Belt Road. As of November, a connection will be established from Yeşilçam Street to Sivas Road, and from there to Kayseri, Adana and Kahramanmaraş roads, allowing the traffic flow to be carried out in a healthy manner. I would like to express my endless gratitude to our citizens for the goodwill shown during the work of this road and to our staff who carried out these works. The road is civilization. The path is the one whose book of deeds is clear. It is charity of concubine. Those who will use this road will reach their destination quickly and in peaceful traffic. By using their time optimally, they will be able to complete their work quickly, save time and travel in a healthy and safe traffic flow. I hope our journey will be beneficial for Malatya. When we look at the cumulative values of this road, the Northern Belt Road, including the connection roads, corresponds to around 4 billion TL. This needs to be underlined. Billions of liras of investment are spent just for this road. I would like to state that at least 10 times the total road investment in the history of Malatya has been invested.”
