Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said, “We have completed the 38-kilometer section of the project. When it is finished, the '32 bends', the nightmare of the drivers, will make the Güzeldere Passage a thing of the past. We aim to shorten the transportation time by 25 minutes with the Güzeldere Tunnel. We will save a total of 67 million TL in time and fuel.”
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu spoke at the Light Seeing Ceremony of the Güzeldere Tunnel, which connects Van to Hakkari. He announced that with this project, there will be a 25-minute reduction in transportation time. Uraloğlu, at the ceremony he attended, said that the roads in the easternmost part of our country provide access to border gates such as Iran and Iraq and serve international trade. Stating that this road between Van and Hakkari provinces is called 32 bends and there are difficulties in transportation in winter months, Minister Uraloğlu said:
“As part of the efforts to strengthen the transportation network in the region, we continue to work on the 61 km part of the road between Güzelsu and Başkale with a hot mix asphalt pavement. We have completed 38 kilometers of the project. We have also completed the excavation work in the 3 meters long double tube Güzeldere Tunnel. The love of our nation is our most important pillar in realizing these projects. We are working day and night to establish a safer and more comfortable road network for our nation.”

Explaining that with the completion of this project, the road level will be lowered by 200 m and the safe and comfortable flow of traffic will be ensured, Uraloğlu said, "The 38-kilometer section of the tunnel has been completed and we are happy to see the light." Uraloğlu said that when the project is completed, there will be a 1 kilometer reduction in the route and 25 minutes in the transportation time, and continued his words as follows:
“When we complete our project, we will establish a safe and comfortable flow of traffic by lowering the road level by 32 meters in the section called 200 bends, where transportation is difficult especially in winter months. Adrenaline enthusiasts will come here in the coming years, and these lands will become the center of attraction for tourism. This will further develop the region. With this project, approximately 36 million TL will be saved annually, 31 million TL from time and 67 million TL from fuel oil, and carbon emissions will be reduced by 8 tons. Thus, our drivers will provide fast and safe transportation with the comfort of divided roads. Good luck with our tunnel and project in advance.”
