Light Appeared in Yeniköprü Yüksekova Tunnel! Travel Time Shortens in Minutes

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the tunnel works between Yüksekova and Yeniköprü have reached an important stage and said, “It will make a great contribution to the faster development of international trade with domestic road transportation. In addition, we will reduce the travel time between Yüksekova and Hakkari from 1 hour 15 minutes to 50 minutes by increasing the safety of life and property on the road route. We aim to reduce the travel time by 25 minutes, while at the same time saving fuel and time.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu attended the 16,3 km Yeniköprü- Yüksekova Road T1 Tunnel Light Seeing Ceremony, which connects Yüksekova to Van-Hakkari State Highway. In his speech at the ceremony, Uraloğlu emphasized the contribution that the YeniKöprü- Yüksekova Road T1 Tunnel will make to domestic and international trade once it is put into service. Uraloğlu stated the following on this subject:

“As it is known, the trade volume between Turkey and Iran is increasing rapidly with the effect of bilateral agreements. For this reason, it has become important to increase the standard of the roads connecting our country to Iran. Yeniköprü- Yüksekova Road, which is among our road sections in this context and serving heavy heavy vehicle traffic, is of great importance for the development of international trade. With this 16,3-kilometer-long project, we will transform the existing 12-meter-wide state road into a 2×2 divided highway with BSK pavement.

Within the scope of the project, we will open the 3-meter T-965 Tunnel and the 1-meter T-4 Tunnel, which brings us together on the occasion of the ceremony of seeing the Light. In addition, we will build the 566-meter Çığlı Bridge, 2-meter Dilektaşı-151 and 282-meter Dilektaşı-1 Bridges. Thus, with the completion of the project, we plan to increase the physical and geometric standards by shortening the existing route by 227 kilometers. In addition, we aim to save fuel and time by increasing the safety of life and property on the road route and reducing the travel time by an average of 2 minutes. We anticipate that we will save a total of 7 million TL annually, 25 million TL from time and 84,3 million TL from fuel.”

In his speech, Uraloğlu stated that they have spent approximately 2003 billion 23 million liras since 250 on the transportation and communication infrastructure of Hakkari, which is one of the most important gates of the Eastern Anatolia Region to Iran. He said that by building more roads, they increased the length of the divided road to 2003 kilometers.

Uraloğlu also referred to the investments made in the field of transportation during the AK Party governments and said:

“With the road move that we started in 2003, we especially strengthened our road transportation network. We gave the lion's share to highways with an investment of approximately 2 trillion 550 billion liras. We have increased the length of the divided highway, which we took over from 6 thousand 100 kilometers, to over 29 thousand kilometers. We have turned almost all of our main axles into divided roads. While the number of cities connected by divided roads was 6, we increased it to 77. We overcame the steep rocks and deep valleys of our country with tunnels and viaducts. Since 2003; We have completed 439 bridges with a length of 3 kilometers and 770 tunnels with a length of 673 kilometers and put them into service. We will soon add our 403-meter-long T-3 Tunnel, which we built as part of the Yeniköprü- Yüksekova Road.”
