Bornova Municipality, which continues its activities on beekeeping and honey production, organized Honey Tasting Training. Bornova Municipality, which supports producers with the apiary it established in Kayadibi District, continues its educational support in the same area. In this context, the Honey Tasting Event was organized to raise awareness of both the producer and the consumer. Environment and Bee Protection Association (ÇARIK) President Şamil Tuncay Beştoy gave information to the participants about the history of beekeeping and honey tasting in Turkey and in the world. Explaining that honeys are classified as flower honey and secretory honey according to the source of their production, and as honeycomb, filtered and pressed honeys according to the way they are obtained, Beştoy explained the details of honey tasting in detail.

Bornova Mayor Mustafa İduğ, who said that he is very happy that the people of Bornova, who are interested in beekeeping, are increasing every year, said, “The beekeeping trainings we started with the principle of local development continue both theoretically and practically. Honey tasting was one of these activities. Our trainings in the apiary of our municipality and the other supports we provide will continue to increase. We aim to increase the honey production in our district as an economic value.”

Bornova Municipality, which presents a beehive with bees and beekeeping equipment to its trainees every year, has transformed the 23-decare area where the hives are placed into a honey forest in order to provide a suitable environment for bees. 700 various fruit saplings and 750 roots of lavender were planted in the area. In addition, bee grass was planted on 3 acres. The apiary also has over 100 beehives belonging to the trainee and a milking machine for harvesting. Honey produced from the beehives of the municipality and the trainees meets the consumers through Bornova Agricultural Development Cooperative. Bornovam branded honeys meet the consumers through Bornova Agricultural Development Cooperative.
