Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its support to ensure the sustainability of agricultural production in Osmaniye, which was hit by the earthquake. 20 thousand olive saplings, which are suitable for the climate of the region and generate income, grown by producers from İzmir were distributed to farmers in Osmaniye. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department delivered 20 thousand olive saplings suitable for the natural structure of the region to Osmaniye in order to increase the sustainability and diversity of production.

President Tunç Soyer, stating that the general coordination of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will continue to support Osmaniye in order to heal the wounds of the earthquake, “Osmaniye has been our sister city since the earthquake disaster. We will continue to support Osmaniye in every way possible. Pandemics and earthquakes once again showed how important agricultural production is. Production must continue in order for the society to get rid of the effects of this destruction as soon as possible. Last week, we sent milk tanks at the request of the producers from Hatay. We support our Osmaniye producers, especially peanuts and their products. These olive saplings will also be the symbol of our eternal friendship.”
It will also receive the products produced
20 thousand olive saplings grown by agricultural development cooperatives operating in İzmir were bought by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and distributed to producers in Osmaniye. Osmaniye farmers will process the crops obtained by bringing olive saplings together with the soil through cooperatives. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will buy the products produced by the earthquake-affected farmers through cooperatives, and will both support and promote Osmaniye products.
Permanent support, not temporary
After the earthquakes, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality made determinations of agricultural damage in the provinces where destruction was experienced, especially Osmaniye, where it was matched among 11 Metropolitan Municipalities. He kept in touch with the institutions, organizations, unions and cooperatives operating in these cities and continued to support them over the past 3 months. The teams, which delivered many needs such as feed, food and supplies to the villages, started a mobilization for the resurgence of the cooperatives. A peanut crushing and oil extraction machine was provided in Osmaniye to transform peanuts into value-added products. Weaving looms were revived. Cooperatives were given repair and renovation support.
