Commissioning Phase of Unit 2 of Belarusian NPP Started

Gosatomnadzor, Department of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Belarus, has completed the commissioning phase of the 2nd Unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, built by Rosatom's Engineering Department ASE A.Ş.

Start of the commissioning phase of the 2nd Unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Gosatomnadzor, Department of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Belarus, the general designer and general contractor of the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom's Engineering Department ASE A.Ş. approved for.

The permit obtained provides for the gradual increase in the power of the power plant up to 40% of its nominal power. Vitaly Polyanin, Deputy Director of ASE A.Ş and Director of the Belarusian NPP Construction Project, said in his statement on the subject, “The permission granted for the implementation of phase B (commissioning) is that all neutron-physical properties of Unit 2 of the power plant comply with the design specifications and the reactor neutron It proves that the flow of power monitoring and control systems operate efficiently and reliably. When the reactor's power reaches 40% of its rated capacity, the experts will perform the trial run and no-load test of the turbine unit. Then the unit will be connected to the grid and electricity will be supplied to the national grid of Belarus,” he said.

Unit 3 of the Belarusian NPP, the newest 2+ generation first nuclear power plant built abroad with Russian technologies, was taken over for commercial operation on 10 June 2021. The share of the energy produced by the unit in the country's annual energy balance is approximately 20%. Acceptance for the operation of Unit 2 of the Belarusian NPP is scheduled for autumn 2023.

The construction of Belarusian NPP power units has become the largest energy-related project in the Union State and the basis of Russian-Belarusian interaction, which covers important areas and ensures energy security of states. The experience gained in cooperation with the relevant institutions from Russia and Belarus has allowed to start developing new activities in various fields of the country's economy, including nuclear medicine, additives and digital technologies, and bring them to a completely new level.

Belarusian NPP with two VVER-2400 reactors with a total capacity of 1200 MW is being built in Ostrovets, Belarus. The Russian 3+ Generation design was chosen for the first nuclear power plant in Belarus, which fully complies with international laws and the safety requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). On June 10, 2021, Unit 3 of the Belarusian NPP, the first nuclear facility of the latest 1+ generation built abroad with Russian technologies, was taken over for commercial operation.

Rosatom is recognized as a global leader and the only company in the world to carry out full-scale production of nuclear power plants abroad. A total of 80 Russian-designed nuclear power plants have been built around the world, 106 of which are power units equipped with VVER reactors. Currently, Rosatom's international order portfolio includes 11 units equipped with VVER reactors under different construction stages in 34 countries.
