China's Deputy Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping stated at a press conference held at the State Council Press Office yesterday that the consumption market recovered steadily in the first quarter of the year.

According to the data announced by the official at the press conference, the sales of new energy vehicles increased by 20,8 percent in January and February, making up 25,7 percent of the sales of new vehicles.

While the import volume of consumer products increased by 2 percent in the first two months of the year, service consumption recovered noticeably. In March, the national services sector business activity index increased by 1,3 points compared to February and reached 56,9 percent.

In January-February, national foodservice industry revenue increased 9,2 percent year-on-year. National box office revenue in the first quarter increased by 13,5 percent compared to the same period last year.

In the first two months of the year, retail sales of consumer products in cities and towns grew by 3,4 percent.
