BirGün Newspaper celebrated its 19th anniversary at the Historical Coal Gas Factory Youth Campus. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who participated in the program Tunç Soyer, saying that the freedom of information is as valuable and indispensable as bread and water, and thanked the workers of the BirGün newspaper, who continued their existence in these difficult conditions.

Tunç Soyeremphasized the importance of freedom of information.

BirGün thanked its workers

Stating that freedom of information is one of the most basic needs in today's world, President Soyer said, “We live in a country where perceptions precede facts, populism is dominant, and a climate of polarization and marginalization is dominant. In that world, in that country, the freedom of information is as valuable and indispensable as bread and water. BirGün is a newspaper without a boss but not without an owner. A newspaper that favors the rights, the people, and the labor. A newspaper where reason, conscience and courage are put on paper. That's why it's so precious. For this reason, I would like to thank the workers of BirGün, who endure all kinds of suffering and all kinds of difficulties in order to maintain their existence in all these difficult conditions.”

“This dark tunnel will end”

BirGün Newspaper Editorial Coordinator Yaşar Aydın stated that they have been in a struggle for 20 years and said, “We are passing through a dark tunnel. I hope it will end. We are nearing the end of this dark tunnel. There are good, beautiful and successful works that we do in this dark process. But the real heroes of the story are the women, youth, laborers and intellectuals who have resisted for 20 years, continued their struggle, and did not surrender Turkey to darkness.”
