Urban Transformation Process Started in Beşiktaş's Karanfilköy District

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) subsidiary KİPTAŞ and İmar AŞ started the long-awaited urban transformation process in the Karanfilköy region of Beşiktaş district. After they are evacuated, the demolition of the environmentally friendly asbestos removal structures continues. On the other hand, demolition works are carried out by considering stray animals and nature.

The transformation of risky structures continues within the scope of the "Istanbul Renewal" platform, established by IMM Urbanism Group companies KİPTAŞ, Istanbul İmar AŞ and BİMTAŞ. In the Karanfilköy neighborhood of Beşiktaş district, very important steps are being taken in the urban transformation process that has been expected for years. Finally, the zoning plans for the region passed unanimously from the IMM Assembly, which took place on November 22, 2022. Site determination studies were carried out in the region, which currently has 900 beneficiaries and consists of a total of 695 independent units, including 79 residences and 774 shops, and then an information office was opened. On December 12, 2022, the demolition of risky structures began. In the project, which will be implemented with the on-site transformation model, the beneficiaries will be the owners of a reliable and environmentally friendly project instead of old and earthquake-proof buildings. While negotiations continue in the region, where the consensus rate reached 94 percent, the target is to break ground with XNUMX% consensus in a short time.

“ASBEST CONDENSED HIGHEST REGION”

KİPTAŞ General Manager Ali Kurt, who examined the ongoing works in Karanfilköy on-site, stated that the process continued with the start of the demolition of 44 independent buildings and said, “Currently, we have completed the evacuation of a total of sixty-five buildings. We got our licenses. We do asbestos removal in our demolition and evacuation processes. This is already a legal requirement. Even if it wasn't, we would. In terms of asbestos density, Karanfilköy region is the region with the highest concentration of asbestos that experts have told us so far. Asbestos is very harmful not only to the area where it is located, but also to the environment. In that sense, this transformation is valuable. Destruction of two independent units. It took about 3-4 minutes. And we're talking about a region whose structure is so fragile at the end. Therefore, this transformation is a very, very important and exemplary work for Istanbul.” said.

“PROJECT WITH RESPECT TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND STREET LIVES”

Stating that they worked very meticulously to prevent stray animals from being affected by the demolition, Kurt said, “Since the Karanfilköy area was developed to be squattered, it was an area where most of the stray animals were sheltered. We came together with the animal lovers in the neighborhood, our rights holders, Beşiktaş Municipality, the relevant units of the Metropolitan Municipality, KİPTAŞ and as a contractor company, and some NGOs in the region, in order to keep these animals out of this area. And we're getting the cats back here, especially. Veterinary medicine. We make use of its services and make it healthier, and we carry out both neutering and double fitting processes. When you look at the area, it is a very wooded area. Some of these trees are trees worth protecting. We will manage the processes related to the depression of the trees here with the reports we have prepared by the universities. We want the public to know this too. Because we want to manage a process that respects the environment and the creatures living there in all our projects.”

The demolition of 44 of 29 structures has been completed with controlled demolitions that will begin at different points. In addition, evacuated structures are included in the demolition program after the detection and disposal of asbestos materials.
