Hearing the Smell, Akin to Karaburun

flower born of legend

The Karaburun daffodil, which can stay alive for 10-12 days even after being plucked from the field and known for its fragrant smell, takes its name from a mythological story. The legend in question is as follows: The region today called the Karaburun Peninsula and Bozdağ, which is located in this region, is referred to as "Mimas" in ancient Greek and Roman history. According to legend, a hunter named Narcissus lived in this region. The forest nymph Ekho sees her one day and falls in love. However, Narcissus does not reciprocate this love. Echo melts away with this love. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, who was very angry at this situation, bewitched Narcissus to make her fall in love with herself in order to take revenge on him. When Narcissus sees his own image in the waters, he suffers from not getting any response. Eventually, he melts away like the forest nymph Ekho. Where Narcissus melts away, a flower blooms. This flower is the daffodil.
