Alstom, the world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a new maintenance contract with the Panama Metro (MPSA) that includes preventive and corrective maintenance of the railway vehicles, signaling and power supply system of Panama's Line 2 Metro. The 16.000 km viaduct line, designed to carry 40.000 passengers per hour in each direction and more than 21 passengers per hour in one direction, has been operating successfully since April 2019, during which time Alstom also provided maintenance services.

According to the terms of the contract, the work has already begun and will take three years. Services will be predominantly managed by Panamanian technicians and experts, all contracted, prepared and trained by Alstom.

The contract includes the maintenance of 21 Alstom Metropolis trains, which includes overhaul of the bogies, braking system, linkage system and pantographs. This maintenance work will help improve the performance and extend the service life of the trains, ensuring service quality and safety.

Alstom will also oversee the maintenance of the Urbalis communication-based train control (CBTC) signaling system, a proven and reliable train control system based on radio communications. The Urbalis solution increases the capacity of the system by providing precise control of the train route and 2-second track transitions between trains on Line 90 to manage traffic efficiently and safely.

The contract also includes the maintenance service of traction and auxiliary substations and the Hesop power system, an Alstom reversible substation solution that allows more than 99% of the energy produced by braking trains to be recovered and transferred for reuse. electrical network of stations for services such as escalators, lighting and ventilation.
