Shoexpo-İzmir Shoe and Bag Fair, the meeting point of the shoe and bag industry, opened its doors for the 49th time. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor of the fair, which will last until September 3 Tunç Soyer and İZFAŞ General Manager Canan Karaosmanoğlu Buyer, Gaziemir Mayor Halil Arda, Aegean Exporters' Unions Coordinator President Jak Eskinazi, Aegean Footwear Industrialists' Association Erdal Durmaz, shoes and bag sector representatives and manufacturers attended the opening ceremony.

“Fairs revive the economic dynamics of the city”

Expressing that they have increased the number of fairs they organize from 14 to 31, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer“While I was coming here, the late Ahmet Piriştina crossed my mind. He used to say that 'İzmir should be a city of fairs and congresses'. This vision, which we also share, has brought us to the point of organizing 31 specialized fairs as of today. We took steps to bring 2 sectors together with international fairs in 34 years. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, of course, does a lot of work through companies, but we are a municipality. We do this for you. We do it for 34 sectors, for the shoe industry. We know that fairs revitalize the economic dynamics of the city, increase the prosperity produced by the city and ensure its fair distribution. Taxi drivers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, tradesmen, representatives of the sector and exporters also win. But this will not happen with the efforts of the Metropolitan alone. If the sector does not take care of it, if the exporter does not take care of it, if the chamber does not, our effort will remain as a well-intentioned initiative.”

“Let's own it”

Stating that fair organization is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world, the President Tunç Soyer, “Specialized fair organization is the biggest locomotive in front of the growth of the sectors within themselves. Izmir is a city with a very deep-rooted history, in fact, it is the city that will best convey this story. If the city does not claim it, that heritage will be wasted and swept away, and it will fly away. There is such a competition in the world that they will take it away from you. And you lament, 'Wow, how beautiful we used to be'. I would like to call out to all Izmir, to all economic sectors of Izmir. Take care of your fairs, we will continue to do so, but this is your job. We will do our best, we will continue to do so. I invite you to take care of it too. I wish that this fair, which we have opened, will be beneficial for our Izmir. The shoes on my feet were made in the Odemiş Shoemakers Site, I've been wearing them for 2 years, we are proud. İzmir has a lot to be proud of, as long as everyone can manage to join hands," he said.

Nobel Expo Chairman of the Board of Directors Erhan Çelik thanked those who contributed to the fair and asked the shoe industry from İzmir to show more interest in the fair.
