Citroën held the world premieres of its elegant and attractive new model C4 X and ë-C4 X, an alternative to traditional hatchback and SUV models in the compact class, in Istanbul. The new model, which combines the coupe silhouette with its elegant 4,6 meters long body and a modern-looking SUV and a large volume 4-door, is positioned between the C4 and the flagship C5 Aircross SUV in the Citroën product range. The C4 X offers Cross design, comfort and spacious interior space together in the compact class. The new model of Citroën, which had its world premiere in Istanbul, offers wide rear legroom, a large 510-liter luggage and ideal features for those looking for an environmentally friendly transportation solution. C4 X has a superior comfort level thanks to Advanced Comfort Seats and Gradual Hydraulic Assisted Suspension® system and Citroën Advanced Comfort program. The C4 X will be offered with high efficiency Citroën PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines, depending on the market in which it is sold.
Citroën introduced the new all-electric ë-C4 X and new C4 X models, which offer an elegant design approach for consumers looking for alternatives to hatchback and SUV models in the compact car market, with their world premiere in Istanbul. The new C4 X challenges traditional compact car body designs with its design. The new design approach combines the elegant silhouette of a coupe with the modern stance of an SUV and the spaciousness of a 4-door car.
Citroën CEO Vincent Cobée said in a statement about the new ë-C4 X and C4 X models that had their world premiere in Istanbul, “The new ë-C4 X and C4 X models will contribute to the increase in sales in European and international markets and the expansion of our brand. The new C4 X will be offered with environmentally friendly and efficient internal combustion engines in international markets and select European countries. Customers will be able to choose between PureTech turbocharged, direct injection petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines. The new ë-C4 X and C4 X models will be produced exclusively in Europe for global markets, at the Stellantis Villaverde production facility in Madrid, Spain, with sales starting gradually from autumn 2022.
Original and Different Design
The new ë-C4 X and C4 X offer a new and unique solution for customers looking for a stylish alternative to hatchback and SUV body types. Citroën Design Manager Pierre Leclercq, who made a statement about the design of the vehicles, said, “The ë-C4 X and C4 X immediately stand out from their competitors visually. At the front, the characteristic Citroën design philosophy is evident. But the silhouette around the car is very different. Much more dynamic and exciting. We offer a long trunk to meet the needs of customers who need extra comfort and a large trunk for rear seat passengers. However, we did not want it to be cumbersome. So we shifted the sharp lines as much as possible for the sloping rear roofline that flows fluidly to the tailgate and then to the rear bumper. "The high driving position combines with the trims around the car to create a silhouette that looks sporty and fluid."
With a length of 4.600 mm and a wheelbase of 2.670 mm, the new ë-C4 X and C4 X use Stellantis' CMP platform. Thanks to the optimized aerodynamic structure with its sloping roofline, the all-electric new ë-C0,29 X offers a high efficiency level and a WLTP range of up to 4 km, with a drag coefficient of only 360 Cd.
When viewed from the profile, the flowing roof line extending from the windshield to the rear trunk lid draws attention and creates an extremely dynamic Coupe silhouette instead of the cumbersome structure seen in tall vehicles in the segment. The rear overhang deftly conceals the length needed to conceal the large 510-litre boot. The tailgate's rear panel, which curves towards the rear bumper, the integrated spoiler at the top, the subtle curves and the central Citroën lettering present a modern and dynamic look. While the rear trunk lid panel increases the perception of quality with its movable design, it strengthens the overall dynamism emphasis of the car.
The striking new LED taillights carry the lines of the trunk lid, cover the corners, continue on the side of the car, form an arrow before the rear door, and complement the design of the striking headlights, enhancing the dynamism of the silhouette.
There is a license plate in the center of the uniquely designed rear bumper. The lower insert of the bumper is finished in matte black for protection and durability. Gloss black inserts create an elegant and modern look, while distinctive side cutouts echo the solid feel of the C5 Aircross.
The large diameter wheels of 690 mm in combination with the short front overhang increase the sense of height, while at the same time creating a high driving position for the driver, resulting in a commanding ride and a greater sense of safety. The lower body claddings with Airbump® panels with colored inserts and the matte black fender lip liners offer additional protection.
The front features Citroën's assertive rounded design signature. The high, horizontal hood has concave recesses. The brand's logo emphasizes the width of the body by linking with the Citroën LED Vision headlights, which increase the emphasis of high technology and improve vision.
While the matte black lower insert in the lower part of the front bumper creates integrity with the application on the sides and rear, it uses a macro logo pattern similar to the 19-19 Concept car on the air intake grilles. On either side of the hexagonal lower grille are fog lamp bezels with colored inserts to match the Airbump® panels on the doors.
Calm, Comfortable and Spacious
The interior of the new Citroën ë-C4 X and C4 X offers enhanced comfort, peace and spaciousness thanks to Citroën Advanced Comfort. 198 mm second row legroom and a more inclined (27 degrees) rear seat backrest take the comfort level of rear passengers to the next level. With a trunk width of 1.800 mm, shoulders of 1.366 mm and elbow room of 1.440 mm, the rear seats are comfortable for three people.

The unique design of the new Citroën ë-C4 X and C4 X models enabled the design team to create a spacious 510-liter luggage compartment. While the roof flows seamlessly from front to back, hinges under the rear window allow for a wide trunk opening, which facilitates access to the trunk. A flat floor, a maximum width of 1.010 mm between the wheel arches and a maximum length of 1.079 mm provide ease of use. The height of 745 mm between the 164 mm loading sill and the luggage floor sill facilitates loading. The height of the boot opening is 445mm (between the load sill and the top of the boot opening) and 565mm between the floor and the boot louver. While the trunk opening is 200 mm above the loading sill, a width of 875 mm and a width of 885 mm at the hinge level of the trunk lid are available. There's additional space under the luggage floor to store extra items and neatly place charging cables. Citroën's innovative and exclusive Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® suspension system provides unforgettable journeys to the driver and accompanying passengers with an enhanced level of comfort. In the system, instead of mechanical stoppers, one for compression and the other for back compression, two-stage hydraulic stoppers are used with shock absorbers and springs.
The suspension works in two stages, depending on the applied voltage. In light compression and back pressure situations, the spring and shock absorber control vertical movements together without the help of hydraulic stoppers. The hydraulic stoppers also give Citroën engineers more freedom to adjust the suspension setup for the “flying carpet” effect, which gives the car a sense of gliding over uneven ground.
In large impacts, the spring and damper work together with the hydraulic compression or rebound stop to gradually slow the movement and prevent jolts. Unlike a mechanical stopper that absorbs energy and then returns some of it as an impact, a hydraulic stopper absorbs and distributes this energy.
