The changing conditions with the effect of global warming are affecting the whole world day by day. Working in the field of climate crisis for a sustainable world, Turkey is entering a new era with the Paris Climate Agreement.
Entek Elektrik General Manager Bilal Tuğrul Kaya emphasizes that it is inevitable for all stakeholders to act simultaneously and jointly in order for Turkey to fulfill its carbon-free economy agenda and the commitments in the Paris Climate Agreement. With the increasing energy demand, the whole world is facing different scenarios in the field of energy. With the effect of global warming, there is a decrease in the production of hydroelectric and wind power plants. In their focus, the whole world is struggling with the climate crisis. Entek Elektrik General Manager Bilal Tuğrul Kaya states that in addition to the steps taken by the governments, the industrialists themselves need to be mobilized in their energy efficiency investments.
“For a carbon-free economy, we need to move from micro to macro”
Referring to the recent rise in fuel and commodity prices, Bilal Tuğrul Kaya said, “The main goal is to meet the increasing energy demand, and at the same time to control this increase with energy efficiency and new technologies. If we want to produce outputs for a carbon-free economy, we need to move from micro to macro,” he says.
“The steps to be taken by the industrialists are very important”
Kaya stated that with the Paris Climate Agreement, the carbon-free economy will find more place in Turkey's agenda; “With this agreement, as a country, we are committed to keeping the global temperature rise below 2 degrees. At COP26, it was revealed that 1,5 degrees is no longer possible with the targets presented by the countries, but 1,8 degrees can still be achieved. This brings with it a decisiveness of great importance. Here, the steps to be taken by our industrialists are as important as the measures to be taken by the public. Efficiency investments will support Turkey's commitment with the joint action of all stakeholders.”
Performance-Based Contracts for a carbon-neutral economy
Emphasizing that energy efficiency and on-site (distributed) energy investments to be made through Performance-Based Contracts are critical both in terms of savings and in terms of carbon-free economy; “As Enspire Creative Energy Solutions, we aim to produce outputs for a carbon-free economy. In order to put a stop to the climate crisis, every factory that produces does not only make energy efficiency and on-site energy investments, but also makes it carbon-free or low-carbon. In this pursuit, we would like to introduce Performance Based Contracts to our industrialists and manufacturers, who specifically target solutions including financing. Performance-Based Contracts contribute to companies by shifting their resources to other areas they need by financing themselves, thanks to the savings in energy costs of companies.
“Increasing demand should be balanced with energy efficiency investments”
Underlining that the increasing demand in the industry should be balanced with energy efficiency and on-site (distributed) energy production investments, Kaya said; “The realization of these investments with Performance-Based Contracts is very important in terms of the commitments of the Paris Climate Agreement. Now, not only efficiency, but also carbon-free efficiency agenda is opening up. We are entering a period in which it will be inevitable for all stakeholders to act simultaneously and jointly. Performance-Based Contracts will stand out as one of the most important investment tools of this period.”
