Kanal Istanbul Route: The EIA Application File of Kanal Istanbul, introduced by President Erdoğan under the name of ıyla Crazy Project ında in 2011, was found appropriate and the EIA process for the project started. The previously presented 5 route landed on 1. Accordingly, the project will be built on the route following the east of Terkos Lake in Küçükçekmece Lake Sazlıdere Dam. The project requires the approval of the ministry to begin construction.
Planned as an alternative to the Bosphorus, the project area will be located within the borders of Avcılar, Küçükçekmece, Başakşehir and Arnavutköy districts. All of the infrastructure and superstructures to be established within the scope of the project will remain within the boundaries of these districts.
According to the completed report, the length of the route of Kanal Istanbul 45 kilometers. The channel will pass through Avcılar, Küçükçekmece, Başakşehir and Arnavutköy districts. The route will start from the intersection that separates the Marmara Sea from the Küçükçekmece Lake and continue along the Sazlıdere Dam Basin. Kanal İstanbul Technical Details

Channel Istanbul Cost

Project 5 to be Completed in Year
Approximately 5 thousand workers will work during the construction phase. When the project is completed, it will provide employment for a thousand people. 1,350 will be suitable for crossing even DTW ships. Depending on the depth of the channel, approximately 1,5 billion cubic meters of excavation is expected. It is estimated that 115 million cubic meters of material will emerge from sea and bottom dredging.
What will happen to excavation?
According to the statements in the EIA report, the first group will consist of 3 sections and the total area will be 186 hectares. The second group of islands will consist of 4 islands and the total area will be 155 hectares. The third group consists of 3 islands and will cover an area of 104 hectares. Excavation will be used outside the island, filling the Black Sea coast and the construction of the new shore to the region of Lake Terkos.
Canal Istanbul Bridges

The most affected areas are Şahintepesi where 35 thousand people live and Altınşehir where 14 thousand people live.
One of the most talked about topics in Kanal Istanbul was the expropriation areas. According to the report, the 45 kilometer route passes through Küçükçekmece Lake, 8 passes through Sazlıdere. One kilometer is the forest. Back area places will be expropriated and this area is about 12 square kilometers. The most populated areas are between Küçükçekmece Avcılar line and Baklalı Terkos. Among the areas that will be most affected by the project are the Şahintepesi where 23 thousand people live and Altınşehir where 35 thousand people live.
