Domestic engine to Van Lake ferry: The domestic ship engine produced in Eskişehir was fitted to the Van Lake ferry built in the Tatvan district of Bitlis.
Locomotive and Engine Industry Corporation of Turkey (from TÜLOMSAŞ) produced "domestic marine diesel engines," Van Lake downloaded was mounted on the largest ferry in the country.
TÜLOMSAŞ workshop engineer Yavuz Gürbüz explained to the AA reporter that they have made the engine they have used in the locomotives since 1974 suitable for the sea and brought them to the marine engine sector.
Noting that the development of this engine is continuing in the maritime sector, Gürbüz said, “500 of our 4kW power engines were installed on the new ferry. 85 percent of these engines are domestic production. We continue our efforts to improve it. We are trying to bring this to the Turkish maritime industry. We continue our efforts in terms of economy and fuel saving. ”
Stating that the existing ferries reach 4,5 hours from Tatvan to Van, Gürbüz emphasized that the new ferries will travel Van Lake in 2,5 to 3 hours with these engines.
Gurbuz, local production in the framework of the 2023 targets to achieve much higher levels of new locomotives, wagons and maritime road works are being voiced.

Hüseyin Akhisar, a shipbuilding engineer, said that they used a 500 kilowatt and 2 200 horsepower 4 engine at a ferry boat.
Pointing out that for the first time in such a big project, domestic machinery is used, Akhisar said, “Therefore, we care about this and we want it to be successful. Because we predict that it will create a projection on the machines given to the maritime industry and that it will continue. The local TÜLOMSAŞ company continues to work on this and its new innovations. He is constantly improving his technologies on fuel, oil and environmental awareness. ”
"The fuel consumption of these engines will be much more economical than the existing ships," said Akhisar.
“An estimated 400 liters per hour seems to be spent per machine. There are 4 propellers on the ship. The propellers are designed to be operated with a single engine. Automation of the machines can be controlled from the captain's mansion and the engine room. As an advantage, I see the machine reaching high powers in small volumes. I think it can be improved further. As it is a domestic production, we think that the spare parts manufacturing of these machines will also contribute to the supplier industry. These engines will also generate less expenses on maintenance. ”
