Solar Energy Revolution in Bolvadin! Solar Power Project is Progressing Rapidly

State Hydraulic Works (DSI) General Manager Mehmet Akif Balta reported that the work on the Solar Power Plant (SPP) project in Afyonkarahisar's Bolvadin district is continuing rapidly.

In Bolvadin district, within the scope of the World Bank Turkey Irrigation Modernization Project, the agricultural lands irrigated by underground pumping method will be irrigated at a much lower cost by installing a Solar Power Plant to meet the electrical energy needs.

While the 90 percent physical realization rate of the project, where production continues, was exceeded, DSI General Manager Mehmet Akif Balta stated that they were racing against time to finish the project. Balta stated that they aim to put the project into use in the first half of 2024.

Balta stated that the work on the Bolvadin district SPP project is currently continuing rapidly and said, “Bolvadin is 61 kilometers away from the city center in the east of Afyonkarahisar. The project site is in the Akarçay Basin and is a closed basin surrounded by high mountains. The water source is groundwater. "The 3rd part of the irrigation networks was completed and put into operation in 2008, the 5th part in 2010, and the 6th part in 2018." said.

Pointing out that the Solar Power Plant, which will meet the electrical energy needs of agricultural lands irrigated by underground pumping within the scope of the World Bank Turkey Irrigation Modernization Project, is of great importance for the agriculture of the region, Balta said, “Our farmers' expenses will decrease and their earnings will increase. "Afyon producers will earn approximately 2024 million lira more per year with the figures of 1." he said.
