First Assembly Meeting After the Election in Malatya Metropolitan Municipality

Metropolitan Mayor Sami Er, who made a short speech after the moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, said, “As you know, we went through an election process. We never used discriminatory, stereotyped or marginalizing language during the election period. During our election campaign, we were wondering 'what can we do, how can we act?' only for the interests of Malatya and for it to get back on its feet again. All our arguments and discourses were in this vein. We never engaged in political polemics during the election process. We tried to pay attention to this.

Because we know that these polemics will not benefit anyone. Both we and our district mayors were elected. Our citizens trusted us and enabled us to gather in our Parliament. Therefore, we should not waste our citizens' trust in us. In our Parliament, we are here for the interests of our cities, districts, towns and neighborhoods. I don't think anyone will seek personal gain. Because our citizens and our city have expectations from us. We all know the situation of our city due to the earthquakes, but we should never be in despair. Even regardless of party, we should have a common view and a common goal, and we should never be hopeless. We need to say 'we will achieve this'. In this regard, we will work hard for the interests of our Malatya. Whatever the needs of Malatya, we will be in contact with the relevant ministries and relevant general directorates in line with their needs. We will do whatever we can to help Malatya get back on its feet as soon as possible. We also stated yesterday when we celebrated the holiday with our staff, 'When our Malatya gets back on its feet, we will have our real holiday together' and I believe this too. Hopefully, we will celebrate our holiday together after the earthquake heals our wounds. "Let's unite and raise our Malatya together," he said.
