New Metros Will Save Istanbulites from Traffic

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said that they have accelerated their efforts to equip Istanbul with modern rail system networks from one end to the other in recent years.

Minister Uraloğlu, who announced that the metro lines that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has completed in Istanbul and put into service for the people of Istanbul has reached a total of 147,7 kilometers, said: "Istanbul's total rail system network has now reached 348 kilometers and the Ministry has put almost half of these lines into service. Just in the first quarter of this year, we put the Bakırköy Sahil- Bahçelievler-Güngören-Bağcılar Kirazlı Line, Gayrettepe- Kağıthane Metro Line, Arnavutköy-İstanbul Airport Metro Line and Sirkeci- Kazlıçeşme Rail System line into service. 9 THOUSAND PASSENGERS USED IT IN 359 DAYS

Minister Uraloğlu stated that the Gayrettepe- Kağıthane Metro, which was put into service on January 29, 2024, carried 278 thousand 127 passengers in a little more than one and a half months, and the Sirkeci- Kazlıçeşme Rail System Line, which was opened on February 26, 2024, carried 260 thousand passengers in less than a month. It reported that it was used by 408 passengers. Minister Uraloğlu said, “The Bakırköy-Kirazlı Metro Line, which we put into service on March 10, 2024, was used by 9 thousand 359 passengers in just 226 days.

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that they put 7 separate metro lines into service in Istanbul, such as Marmaray, Levent-Hisarüstü Metro, Pendik-Sabiha Gökçen Airport Metro, and that they continue the projects without stopping.

Stating that the work done for Istanbul will accelerate and increase, Minister Uraloğlu underlined that as a result of the work carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Istanbul needs a total of 1004 kilometers of metro line and said, “As we have always expressed, it is no longer possible to solve Istanbul's transportation problem from the surface. . Istanbul needs metros. So we need to go underground and build new metro lines. "Considering that the length of Istanbul's rail system will increase to 394,2 kilometers when the ongoing projects of our Ministry are completed, this means that another metro line of over 600 kilometers needs to be built," he said.
