Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Selahattin Gürkan expressed his pleasure in hosting Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yücel Yılmaz and his accompanying delegation in Malatya.
Providing brief information about the history of Malatya, Mayor Gürkan continued his speech by saying, “On February 6, we experienced the disaster of the century, which we call the rehearsal of the apocalypse. We lost thousands of our citizens in the earthquake. Thousands of residences and workplaces were destroyed. During the period when we experienced these disasters, Türkiye showed the best example of unity and solidarity. Our Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor is one of those who wrote those epics here at that time. He camped in Malatya with his entire team during the earthquake. He made great sacrifices, from setting up tents, serving hot soup, establishing container cities, from his work in infrastructure to his support to MASKI. I would like to express my gratitude to our Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and his entire team on behalf of the people of Malatya.
Our Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and his accompanying delegation came to Malatya on this day, when we experienced the year of earthquakes. Our city is in ruins. At the point of reviving our city, we are trying to revive this city in good coordination with all organs of our state, especially our President. Currently, while our citizens reside in container cities, they continue their commercial activities by building temporary workplaces. I believe that our city will go further in the future.
We provided good services to Malatya during this period. Many times more than the total services in the history of Malatya were provided during this period, despite the pandemic and earthquakes. Hopefully, the city's recovery will be thanks to our friends who will come again with the understanding of transformation. First of all, our Governor provides good services to our city with his acumen, impartiality and transparent management approach. Our Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor was in Malatya during the earthquake. They made efforts to get Malatya back on its feet. "I thank you again for your efforts," he said.
