Sakarya Received the EU Referenced Award

Sakarya, especially recently, was known for its environmentally friendly and nature-friendly projects. Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality made its name known to the world with its nature and climate friendly and environmentally friendly projects. The Metropolitan Municipality, which produces and develops for a cleaner environment and a greener city, was deemed worthy of another award as a result of the nature-based solutions it implemented.

METROPOLITAN'S PRIDE DAY

The Metropolitan Municipality, which strives to reduce the negative effects of climate change and increase the resilience of the city by focusing on the changing climate structure, won the "2023 SECAP Adaptation Actions Developer" award at the award ceremony in Istanbul.

Project Team Leader Daiva Matoniene presented the award to the Metropolitan Municipality, which is a part of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) - Convention of Mayors in Europe Western Balkans and Turkey Project.

40% GAS REDUCTION PROMISE

Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, which played an active role in the development and adaptation actions of the SECAP Project, had committed to a 40% reduction in greenhouse gases according to the Mayors' Agreement it signed and targeted 2030 for this.

In line with this goal, the Metropolitan Municipality Climate Change Branch Office successfully completed the 8-month SECAP Capacity Development Training and was entitled to receive the certificate. The Metropolitan team was honored with the "Blue Butterfly" award for its success in this exam.

SAKARYA PROVED ITS DETERMINATION

These two awards once again proved the city's determination and effectiveness in combating climate change. Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality draws attention as an exemplary model at regional and international levels with its nature and environmentally friendly projects. The city strengthens its position in the fight against climate change with its sensitive management system.

Making an evaluation with the award-winning team, Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem Yüce said, “We are reaping the fruits of our environmentally friendly projects and steps to combat climate change. This award we received today is an indication that Sakarya is an example to the world in this field. "I would like to express my gratitude to my team, all the organization managers and my fellow citizens who supported us," he said.
