Railway Project to Yavuz Sultan

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, who announced that the tender for the Railway Project that will pass through the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge will be held this year, also gave information about the project.

Pointing out that the 'Development Road' and 'Zengezur Corridor' projects are important in terms of strengthening Turkey's commercial, logistical and political ties, Minister Uraloğlu said, "All kinds of commodities coming to the Persian Gulf from major countries such as China and India are transferred from FAW Port through Ovaköy Border Gate. We continue our efforts to deliver it to our country. When a product handled in the Persian Gulf is loaded from here, it can reach every point in Europe via Marmaray via Turkey. With the railway project that we will implement via the 'Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge' in the future, we will now have the opportunity to extend the limited capacity and limited hours of use here to all times. The 'Development Path Project' will be the shortest and most economical corridor between the north-south corridors, connecting the Far East, South Asia, the Middle East and Europe. "We are also implementing the 'Zengezur Corridor Project', which will provide direct rail and road transportation between Turkey and Azerbaijan." he said.

Stating that the tender for the railway project starting from Gebze, passing the 'Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge' and going to Çatalca via Istanbul Airport will be held this year, Uraloğlu stated that the work will be completed in 4-5 years with the tender, and added that an additional pair will be built to ensure uninterrupted freight and passenger transportation. He stated that there was a need for a line railway.

Explaining the railway project route, Uraloğlu said, "The Gebze-Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge - Çatalca Railway route leaves the Çayırova location of the Marmaray line, heads north after Sabiha Gökçen Airport, passes the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, reaches Istanbul Airport and continues on. Halkalı –It is connected to Kapıkule line. The railway line in question is 120 kilometers long; It will be operated as freight and passenger. "In addition, 29 viaducts, 11 cut-cover and 21 tunnels will be built within the scope of the project," he said.

Uraloğlu stated that with the construction of the Gebze - Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge - Çatalca railway line, high-capacity cargo and passenger transportation will be carried out uninterruptedly between Asia and Europe. Uraloğlu also stated that Sabiha Gökçen Airport and Istanbul Airport will be connected to each other with a high standard railway.
