Turkey's First Fine Arts Primary and Secondary School Will Be Opened in Ankara

A cooperation protocol was signed between the Ministry of National Education and Ankara Music and Fine Arts University. With the protocol, Turkey's first fine arts primary and secondary school will be opened in Ankara Music and Fine Arts University Campus. A fine arts high school will also be established on the campus.
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, regarding Turkey's first fine arts primary school and secondary school to be established at Ankara Music and Fine Arts University, said, “I believe it is a revolutionary step in music education in Turkey. "In this regard, a brand new field, a brand new opportunity opens up for our talented children," he said. Stating that a very different path has been opened in Turkey with the protocol, especially regarding art education and education in general, Tekin said that the new schools to be implemented are one of the school types that have been included in the education system with the "project school" format that has been carried out since 2014. Explaining that they took important steps to make vocational high schools thematic by collaborating with the sector based on this new model, Tekin stated that they similarly worked with federations related to sports high schools and opened volleyball, football and basketball high schools.

Students will be accepted from all over Turkey

Stating that they first included the project as a music-themed fine arts high school on their agenda, and then moved to start providing music education from younger ages, Tekin continued his words as follows: "Here, with the support of our rector, primary school, secondary school and high school within Ankara Music and Fine Arts University will be established. Hopefully, we will have started an education and training process that includes I'm really excited. I believe it is a revolutionary step in music education in Turkey. Hopefully, we can write a success story from here that can continue and sustain this excitement.”  Schools will accept students from all over Turkey. "We will start the process in a complex where children under the auspices of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies can also be included in this process, and where there is a dormitory and a hostel within the campus where our children can stay." Regarding the cooperation protocol, Minister Tekin said, "With these signatures, from primary school to undergraduate programs and even master's and doctoral programs, we will start the process." Rector of Ankara Music and Fine Arts University Prof. Dr. Erhan Özden emphasized that with the protocol, we witnessed a moment in the history of the Republic of Turkey where a very important step would be taken for art education. Rector Özden said that the Turkish music-themed primary and secondary school and fine arts high school, which will be opened under Ankara Music and Fine Arts University with the support of the Ministry of National Education, will play an important role in carrying classical Turkish music, traditional arts and ancient arts to the future.
