Reverse Migration Is Increasing in Istanbul

Stating that migration mobility is divided into two as internal and external migration, Yasemin Zaimoğlu from EVA Gayrimenkul Değerleme pointed out that apart from the concepts of migration, there is also the concept of reverse migration, which has been frequently heard recently. Noting that reverse migration is the change of direction of the migration movement made for economic, political and social reasons, Zaimoğlu noted that Istanbul is one of the cities that receive the most immigrants and is also one of the cities that give the most immigrants.

Emphasizing that migration mobility increased with the pandemic, Zaimoğlu said, “When we look at the list of the top 10 cities from which people migrated from Istanbul in recent years, the striking point in the last four years is that Kocaeli ranks first and is basically Ankara, Tekirdağ, İzmir, Bursa, Sakarya and Antalya.” has been on the list for four years. Istanbul has more immigrants every year. It can be observed that these rankings include provinces where industrialization is high and therefore there are many job opportunities, and where housing sales and rental prices are more affordable compared to Istanbul. "Looking at these data, it is thought that Kocaeli, Tekirdağ, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Sakarya and Antalya will continue to be on the list in the coming years, and even Balıkesir, which has been on the list for the last two years, will continue to surpass Antalya and Muğla and maintain its place on the list," he said.
