Foundation for Urban Transformation in Bakırköy, Istanbul

ISTANBUL (IGFA) – KİPTAŞ, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), which carries out works in many regions with the 'Istanbul is Renewing' platform, started the transformation process by reaching an agreement with the rights holders of İş Bankası Mensupları Site, built in 1968, in Bakırköy district.

Following the compromise, the controlled demolition of 55-year-old earthquake-resistant structures was carried out. We have reached the groundbreaking stage in the process that will provide beneficiaries with their new, earthquake-resistant and modern residences. The groundbreaking ceremony of the project, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluIt was held with the participation of . Bakırköy Mayor Bülent Kerimoğlu, Küçükçekmece Mayor Kemal Çebi and beneficiaries were also present at the ceremony. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and KİPTAŞ General Manager Ali Kurt each made speeches at the ceremony.

“THE ONE WHO KEEP HIS PEOPLE ALIVE KEEP HIS STATE ALIVE”

In his speech, İmamoğlu noted that the most important issue in Istanbul is to act quickly to transform risky residences into safe, earthquake-resistant, environmentally friendly structures and said, “İş Bankası Mensupları Sitesi is one of them. We had previously laid the foundations for another section and were on our way. Today, we are laying the foundation on the İncirli parcel, which consists of 111 beneficiaries. When we look at it, we are providing a more durable and stronger start to a new life in a complex where 800 of our citizens live, transforming them into living in safe homes rather than being feared during an earthquake. Considering Istanbul, what we are doing may seem like a small job in terms of scale. "But when you look at saving 800 lives from a threat, God forbid, when we think about how many lives we lost even in one site in the last earthquake we experienced, and how it caused us pain, we better understand how big a job each step taken like this actually is," he said.

Stating that 800 people will join their safe home with the project, Mayor İmamoğlu criticized the urban transformation process that has been managed since 1999.

Noting that promises were made before the local elections that could not be kept, Mayor İmamoğlu said, “They will do the same again. But everyone knows this; Those who cannot manage the economy cannot manage urban transformation either. "It's very clear," he said.

Underlining that they will continue to represent the concept of service equal to 16 million, İmamoğlu said, “We lay real foundations. We describe real projects. We are not of the mentality of laying 50-100 meters of rails before the election and bringing a transformer to run the tram on it. Or, before the election, we are not among those who lay a foundation in a corner, pour concrete on it and say 'what beautiful concrete that is'. We are members of a transparent democratic approach that produces real work, tries to make its people happy, and shows you everything in a real way. May we all be safe. "Istanbul will continue to belong to all of us," he said.
