Permanent Solution to Bodrum's Drinking Water Problem

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (MUSKI) General Directorate teams continue their work to eliminate the drinking water problem, which is the biggest problem of Bodrum. The teams, which have implemented many different projects to provide additional water to the region, are finally launching new works.

The Metropolitan Municipality aims to purchase the Geyik Dam from the Electricity Production Joint Stock Company (EÜAŞ) and transfer all of the water there to Bodrum.

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality MUSKİ General Directorate teams have implemented many different projects as a precaution against two dams that had to be closed by DSI due to the impossibility of water transmission in Bodrum. The teams built a new drinking water line and tank to transfer water from Akgedik Dam to Bodrum, providing a significant amount of water to the Peninsula. In addition, a significant amount of water was delivered to Bodrum with the works carried out in Sazköy and other different water sources.

In addition to the inclusion of underground water resources into the system, the teams made improvements in existing water reservoirs and drinking water treatment facilities to bring more water into the system, and new projects were started by taking into account the future population projection of Bodrum.

Within the scope of the studies carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality, the scientific aspects of Bodrum's drinking water problem until 2041 and 2054 were addressed.

According to the calculations made to provide additional main water supply, it has been determined that Bodrum's drinking water need is 2041 million cubic meters by 52, and many different projects are planned to be implemented in this context.

The most important of these will be the project of purchasing the Geyik Dam from the Metropolitan Municipality and transferring the dam water entirely to Bodrum as drinking water. In this context, the Metropolitan Municipality is carrying out the necessary procedures for the expropriation of the Geyik Dam. If the dam is purchased from EÜAŞ, the water here will be available only to Bodrum and a large part of the water deficit in the district will be eliminated.

In addition, efforts are being made to prevent domestic wastewater pollution by building a sewer network in all neighborhoods around the Mumucular Dam, and to work on streams at different points to ensure that they flow into the Mumcular Dam. It is also emphasized that within the scope of the same study, different solutions such as rainwater harvesting will be carried out.

In addition, it is stated that promotion stations and new line arrangements will be made at many different points in DSI main transmission lines to increase the carrying capacity.
