Historical Moment at Konya Science Center

The space journey of the first Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravcı was followed with interest by science and space enthusiasts from ages 7 to 70 at Konya Science Center.

Students and their families, who followed the historical moments on the giant screen installed in Konya Science Center, Turkey's first and largest TÜBİTAK-supported science center, brought to the city by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, shared the great excitement of the launch ceremony.

Various workshops such as rocket circuit, sky puzzle and virtual reality were held during the day before the space journey of Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı for science and space enthusiast students and their families. Also Dr. Emre Sermutlu also had a conversation about space. When the clock showed 00.49, the students and their families who witnessed Alper Gezeravcı's journey, which took off from Kennedy Air Base in Florida, USA and started towards the International Space Station, recorded these historical moments with their mobile phones.

KONYANS WHO WITNESSED THE HISTORICAL MOMENT ARE FULL OF PROUD

Hasan Kayacı, one of the participants of the event at Konya Science Center, said that it was an honor to witness this historical moment with his family.

7-year-old Ayaz Kayacı stated that he attended the event with his family and stated that he was very happy to witness the journey of Gezeravcı, the first Turkish astronaut sent to the International Space Station within the scope of the "first manned space mission", at a young age.

66-year-old Raci Ceylan stated that it was a great pleasure and pride for a dream that has been going on for years to come true and thanked everyone who contributed. Emphasizing that he believes that Turkey will come to even better positions, Ceylan pointed out that this journey is a turning point. Within the scope of Turkey's first manned space mission program, prepared by Konya Science Center for a participant audience of approximately 500 people, astronomy-themed workshops, scientific conversation activity and award-winning quiz competition were held in the main building. Sky presentations, movie screenings and sky observation activities with telescopes were also organized for the participants in the planetarium area.
