6 Million Kilowatts of Energy in 68 Facilities in Konya

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay pointed out that global climate change is one of the most important factors that threaten the environment and said that, as the Metropolitan Municipality, they carry out important work on national and international platforms.

Emphasizing that they have carried out exemplary projects for Turkey regarding environmentally friendly investments, nature protection and the use of renewable energy resources with the understanding of "Konya Model Municipality", Mayor Altay said that one of the studies they carried out in this context was the production of electricity from methane gas.

“WE PRODUCED 2023 MILLION 68 THOUSAND 818 KILOVATES OF ELECTRIC ENERGY FROM METHANE GAS IN 974”

Emphasizing that the role of cities in the global arena is of great importance and that renewable energy resources are very valuable, Mayor Altay said:

“We convert the methane gas produced during the formation of sludge obtained by processing waste water in Konya Solid Waste Regular Landfill, Cihanbeyli, Ereğli, Akşehir solid waste landfills, Aslım Solid Waste Site, which has been rehabilitated and closed to garbage collection, and by our KOSKİ General Directorate, into electrical energy. With our environmentally friendly projects, we both support energy needs and contribute to the fight against climate change. We produced 2023 million 68 thousand 818 kilowatts of electrical energy from methane gas in our facilities in 974. The amount of electricity produced from methane gas in our facilities to date has exceeded 719 million 541 thousand 960 kilowatt hours. As the Metropolitan Municipality, we will continue to contribute to our economy while protecting our nature.”

OVER 3 THOUSAND TONS OF WASTE ARE STERILIZED ANNUALLY IN THE MEDICAL WASTE STERILATION FACILITY

Mayor Altay also stated that there is a Medical Waste Sterilization Facility in the Konya Solid Waste Regular Landfill and Energy Production Facility and that they carry out the sterilization of medical waste there, and said, “We collect medical waste with 4 licensed vehicles and carry out the sterilization process with 2 sterilizers. The daily capacity of 2 sterilizers is 10 tons in total. "The annual amount of waste we sterilize in this facility is over 3 thousand tons," he said.

On the other hand, Konya Metropolitan Municipality; After Selçuklu, Altınekin, Kulu, Cihanbeyli and Sarayönü, it finally brought a solid waste transfer center to Çeltik district in 2023, at a cost of 7 and a half million liras. The facility in Çeltik will also serve Yunak and Tuzlukçu.
