Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department went on alert against the possibility of fire with the start of cotton harvest.

The Fire Department has completed its preparations to quickly intervene in possible fires that may occur during the cotton picking season.

The fire brigade, which is on alert 310/7 to respond to fires with 24 personnel and full equipment, increases its agility with the drills it organizes.

Fire Department Head Veysel Yiğit pointed out that the possibility of fire increases during the cotton harvest in the city center and rural areas.

Yiğit said:

“Cotton harvest has started in our region. Our producers must take the necessary fire precautions when storing or processing cotton. Cotton is a substance that burns easily and is difficult to extinguish. Most cotton fires are human-caused and occur as a result of carelessness, carelessness and negligence. Since these types of fires fall into the Class A fire group, the main extinguishing agent is water. However, if necessary, foam is used by the suffocation method to cut off contact with air. "We have sufficient chemical extinguishers such as dry chemical powder and foam that we use in fires."

Emphasizing that the possibility of fire can be prevented by the precautions taken by farmers, Yiğit said:

“Here, especially in the preventive measures to be taken, it is mandatory to have fire hydrate automatic extinguishing systems and fire warehouses in storage areas and gin factories. In all fires, if adequate intervention is not made at the initial stage of combustion, it will reach uncontrollable dimensions in the following minutes, and fires that we can extinguish with a bucket of water cannot be extinguished even with tons of water minutes later. "Here, we recommend that our farmers and operators working in this sector be sensitive in taking the necessary precautions."
