Konya Metropolitan Municipality implemented an application that is exemplary for Turkey during European Mobility Week, in order to raise awareness among students about bicycles. Konya Metropolitan Municipality provides classroom bicycle repair and maintenance training to primary and secondary school students in Konya, which is the city with the longest bicycle path network and the highest number of bicycle users in Turkey. It is planned that the training will continue throughout the year in different schools.
An exemplary work for Turkey was initiated by Konya Metropolitan Municipality in Bicycle City Konya during the "European Mobility Week".
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said that they are working to raise awareness about bicycles for adults and especially students during the European Mobility Week, which is celebrated simultaneously in many European cities between 16-22 September every year.
BICYCLE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE TRAININGS WILL BE SPREAD THROUGH THE YEAR
Noting that they have implemented another exemplary application for Turkey regarding bicycles in Konya, which has the longest bicycle path network and the city with the highest number of bicycles in Turkey, Mayor Altay said, “We want our students to become more aware of bicycles and to grow up as healthy individuals. For this purpose, we conducted bicycle repair and maintenance training for fourth and fifth graders in two of our schools. In the training given in classes; Our students were informed about the parts that make up the bicycle, periodic maintenance of the bicycle, methods of responding to minor malfunctions, and the tools and wrench sets used in responding to malfunctions. "We will continue to provide these trainings, which we started for the first time during European Mobility Week, in different schools throughout the year," he said.
STUDENTS LEARNED USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT BICYCLE IN THE TRAININGS
Students who attended bicycle repair and maintenance training at Selçuklu Şehit İbrahim Betin Primary School and Karatay Sezai Karakoç İmam Hatip Secondary School stated that they learned very useful information about bicycles. The students thanked Konya Metropolitan Municipality for the training organized and invited everyone to live an active life and ride bicycles.
