Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the first 2023 months of 8. Compared to the same period last year, total production increased by 13 percent and reached 943 thousand 609 units. Automobile production, which increased by 8 percent compared to the first 21 months of last year, reached 599 thousand 915 units. With tractor production, total production increased to 981 thousand 897 units. In the commercial vehicle group, production increased by 8 percent in the first 2 months of the year, and in the heavy commercial vehicle group by 27 percent, while the light commercial vehicle group remained parallel to the previous year. Compared to the first 2022 months of 8, the commercial vehicle market increased by 60 percent, the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 32 percent, and the light commercial vehicle market increased by 66 percent. In the first 8 months of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased by 11 percent in terms of units, while the increase in automobile exports was 26 percent. During this period, total exports were 656 thousand 750 units and automobile exports were 425 thousand 934 units. In the 2023-month period of 8, the total market increased by 63 percent compared to the same period last year, closing at 788 thousand 197 units. During this period, the automobile market also increased by 64 percent and reached 582 thousand 419 units.
Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 members guiding the Turkish automotive industry, announced production and export figures and market data for the January-August period of 2023. Accordingly, in the first 8 months of the year, total automotive production increased by 13 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 943 thousand 609 units. Automobile production increased by 21 percent and reached 599 thousand 915 units. Including tractor production, total production reached 981 thousand 897 units. In the first eight months of the year, commercial vehicle production increased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 27 percent, while production in the light commercial vehicle group remained parallel to the previous year. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 72 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 71 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 89 percent in the truck group, 50 percent in the bus-midibus group and 75 percent in the tractor.
Exports increased by 17 percent and reached 23,3 billion dollars!
In the first eight months of the year, automotive exports increased by 11 percent in terms of units compared to the same period last year, reaching 656 thousand 750 units. During this period, automobile exports increased by 26 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 8 percent. Tractor exports increased by 2022 percent compared to the same period in 13, reaching 13 thousand 88 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained its top place in the sectoral export rankings with 2023 percent in the first eight months of 16. According to Uludağ Exporters' Associations (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the first eight months increased by 2022 percent compared to the same period of 17, reaching 23,3 billion dollars. In euro terms, it increased by 16 percent and reached 21,5 billion euros. During this period, main industry exports increased by 21 percent and supply industry exports increased by 12 percent in dollar terms.
The market approached 800 thousand units in eight months!
In the first eight months of 2023, the total market increased by 63 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 788 thousand 197 units. During this period, the automobile market also increased by 64 percent and reached 582 thousand 419 units. Looking at the commercial vehicle market, in the first eight months of the year, a growth of 60 percent was achieved in the total commercial vehicle market, 32 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle market, and 66 percent in the light commercial vehicle market, compared to the same period of the previous year. In the January-August period of 2023, compared to the same period last year, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 31 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 50 percent.
