Written in 1977 by Oktay Araıcı, one of the valuable writers of Turkish theatre, “Rumuz Goncagül” will be staged by the Istanbul State Theater under the direction of Zafer Algöz and with music by Timur Selçuk at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM).
Played by many theaters and attracted great attention since the day it was written, “Rumuz Goncagül” will meet with art lovers at the AKM Theater Hall on 23, 24 and 25 June. One of the important playwrights of Turkish theater, Oktay Araıcı, tells the story of women's oppression under the influence of the changing social structure and economic life in the late 70s, and will be presented to the attention of the audience under the direction of Zafer Algöz, with the interpretation of the Istanbul State Theatre. The music of the game, whose music director is Rahim Ozan Demir, bears the signature of the valuable artist Timur Selçuk, whom we lost in 2020.

The subject of the play is as follows: “Insaf Hanım, who lives with her daughter Gülsün in an outdated house in one of the historical districts of Istanbul, cannot live on her husband's pension, so she rents a room in the house where she is her tenant to Sıtkı. Insaf Hanım finds a way out of this stuckness and writes a newspaper advertisement under the pseudonym "Goncagül" so that her daughter can have a home, an assurance and a home. . However, when 261 letters are received, Ms. İnsaf, who realizes that she will not be able to meet with all of them, asks her tenant for help. Sıtkı accepts the help of mother and daughter and she also talks with the suitors. After that, things suddenly become unbearable. Unaware of the love of Sıtkı, whom she secretly loves, Gülsün, while searching for the love she expects, realizes that the only problem of the suitors who come home is profit, and even though she falls into despair, she clings to the love she trusts. Just when they are happy, a big surprise awaits them all.”
