Turkey's First Oil and Natural Gas Themed Vocational High School to Be Opened

Immediately after the commissioning of Black Sea gas, one of the most important energy projects in Turkey's history, at the Filyos Natural Gas Processing Facility with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, an important step was taken in the field of education upon the instruction of Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer. In order to train the qualified manpower needed by the oil and natural gas industry, Turkey's first oil and natural gas themed vocational high school will be opened in Filyos.

A cooperation protocol was signed between the Ministry of National Education and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) in order to train the qualified manpower needed by the oil and natural gas industry.

Deputy Minister of National Education Sadri Şensoy on behalf of the Ministry and Chairman of the Board of Directors Melih Han Bilgin on behalf of TPAO were present at the ceremony held at the center located in the Turkish Petroleum Port.

Deputy Minister Şensoy, who started his speech by conveying the greetings of the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, who could not be at the signing ceremony due to his busy schedule, stated that the good news of Black Sea gas given by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on April 20 was very pleasing, and after this good news, training qualified personnel in the oil and natural gas field. He explained that they decided to build a school together with the Turkish Petroleum Corporation.

Emphasizing that the school to be established in Filyos will be a first in Turkey, Şensoy said, “As the Ministry of National Education, we will transfer all the knowledge we have gained so far. We will transfer all our opportunities in terms of administrators, teachers and technical infrastructure. Turkish Petroleum Corporation will make all the education and training physical environments of our school. We will provide all the equipment in it with the latest technology in the best way.” said.

Şensoy continued his words as follows:

“We will admit students here through the central exam within the scope of the High School Transition System. It will be a one-year preparatory program. And the training will last for 5 years. We believe that academically successful students from all over Turkey will prefer this place. In LGS exams, I believe that this place will take students from the one percent slice.”

TPAO Chairman of the Board Melih Han Bilgin stated that they will start a program to train qualified human resources in the oil and natural gas sector and said, “Young people are our future, we will continue to invest in our future. We have seen how quickly things can be concluded when all the institutions of the state are focused on a common goal. I hope we will show you more…” he said.

After the speeches, the signing ceremony was held. Zonguldak Governor Mustafa Tutulmaz, MPs Ahmet Çolakoğlu, Polat Türkmen, Vocational and Technical Education General Manager Nazan Şener and Zonguldak National Education Director Züleyha Aldoğan also attended the program.

Within the scope of cooperation, the construction of a vocational and technical Anatolian high school, the first of which will be in Zonguldak, which will specialize in the field of oil and natural gas; It is aimed to have the school building, social facilities, accommodation areas and additional education areas built by TPAO and, if agreed, to build schools in other oil production campuses of Turkey.
