The Furniture Academy, which was brought to life by the Karabağlar Municipality in cooperation with the Izmir Chamber of Carpenters and Furnituremakers (İZMOD), continues to work intensively to support the furniture industry. The Furniture Academy, which was established to introduce Karabağlar Furniture to our country and the world and to train qualified intermediate staff, organizes sustainable design workshops to raise awareness of the society, as well as the training programs opened in line with the needs of the sector.

Nearly 50 citizens from different professions attended the “Dispose, Repair, Reuse” workshop within this scope. In the workshop consisting of 2 parts, the participants got information about the transformation of a furniture and made an application. In the workshop coordinated by the KENTTE-İZ Platform, the students developed various ideas on the methods of repairing and reusing furniture.

In the first part of the workshop, the participants, who were informed about the furniture textile and the materials to be used in its interior, recycle the waste fabric and sponges together with the trainer and experienced furniture master Kadir Kadeh. At the same time, they learned to use the sewing machine and practiced it.

In the second part, they had the opportunity to practice the types of wood used in furniture and how to repair and repair old furniture in the workshop of furniture master Mert Trak. At the end of the study, a Scandinavian model seat that is at least 2 years old was made ready for use again.

Karabağlar Mayor Muhittin Selvitopu emphasized that the “Sustainable Design Workshop” based on respect for nature is open to everyone and said, “Furniture Academy, which we established to support our furniture sector, which is the locomotive of our district's economy, has attracted great interest since the first day it was opened. We will continue to support this sector and our furniture tradesmen with the new steps and studies we will take.”
