The container city of approximately 700 people established by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in Adıyaman has been put into service. There is a park for children, a health unit, a library, a social facility and a laundry on the 165 thousand square meter area where 15 containers are located.

Work continues at the coordination centers established by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye and Adıyaman to heal the wounds of the earthquake. The Metropolitan, which established container cities to meet the shelter and basic living needs of the citizens in the region, completed the construction of the container city in Adıyaman. Together with the Adıyaman Medical Chamber, a living space of 15 containers was created on an area of ​​184 thousand square meters. While 184 of 165 containers were made available to earthquake victims, the other containers were allocated to children, health units, library, social facility, laundry and management units.

A garden area for every family

Ekrem Tükenmez, General Manager of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Egeşehir A.Ş. and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Adıyaman Disaster Coordination Manager, stated that most of the earthquake victims were placed in containers. We have completed all the infrastructure works. In addition, we applied an unusual architectural design. A project was created with the support of an architect friend who experienced the Van Earthquake. We left about 20 square meters of usage area outside each container. Our families living in containers will be able to use this place as a garden. Families have started to green their gardens," he said.

“We are working on new settlements in Adıyaman”

Tükenmez stated that preparations for a container city are being carried out in the center of Adıyaman, and said, “Izmit Municipality will give 30 containers of 120 square meters and Austrian Alevi Unions will give 150 containers. We will do the infrastructure and superstructure works and the landscaping. We will establish the social facilities. We will hand it over to our citizens. One hundred percent of the ground work has now been completed. We are building water and sewer infrastructure. We have completed the installation of approximately 30 containers. Here, 270 of the 120 living areas will be prefabricated buildings. At the same time, we will prepare the infrastructure of the container area in the Harmanlı Town of Gölbaşı, Kalemkaş Neighborhood. We started the excavation work. An area will be created for 110 families to live.

Work continued during and after the flood disaster

Tükenmez, who talked about the works carried out by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in Adıyaman, said, “We provide the materials for the water and sewerage infrastructure of Gölbaşı. We continue our water and sewer infrastructure renovation and repair works with 22 personnel. After the flood in Tut district in March, we worked to ensure the natural flow of the stream beds and to prevent floods. We organized it by clearing the roads that were damaged due to the flood. We also cleaned the city with construction machines," he said.

Container cities were established in 4 provinces

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality created a living space of 120 containers in Kahramanmaraş. Earthquake survivors began to settle in containers. In Osmaniye, the installation of 200 containers in the city consisting of 150 containers has been completed. Construction of a 200-container city in Hatay continues.
