Gendarmerie personnel in Adıyaman, which was affected by the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, played chess matches with children in the tent city established in Eğriçay Park.

Foça Gendarmerie Commando Training Commander Major General Halil Şen also attended the chess event organized in cooperation with Provincial Gendarmerie Command, Turkish Chess Federation and Adıyaman Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports.

Gendarmerie Petty Officer Senior Sergeant Hatice Öztürk explained that they organized various activities to help earthquake survivors find their morale.

Stating that the children had fun playing chess, Gendarmerie Petty Officer Senior Sergeant Hatice Öztürk said, “We are trying to make the children in the tent city get away from the psychology of earthquakes, even for a little bit. Children are very happy when they see us. As the Gendarmerie personnel, we want to put a smile on the faces of the victims.” said.

Turkish Chess Federation Regional Officer Cengiz Yalçın emphasized that they want earthquake victims to forget their pain.

Expressing that they want to see children laughing in the city, Turkish Chess Federation Regional Officer Cengiz Yalçın said:

“We aim to share the experiences of children and help them get away from earthquake psychology. That is our only aim. We organize our events with the great support of Gendarmerie Commando Training Commander Major General Halil Şen and Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate. Gendarmerie teams both provide security here and make great efforts to heal the wounds of the earthquake. We brag about it. They let our children play chess and have fun. We are happy too. Thank you to everyone who contributed.”

Adıyaman Youth and Sports Director Fikret Keleş stated that there was a great disaster in the city and many studies were carried out to help the victims overcome the trauma of the earthquake.

Adıyaman Youth and Sports Director Fikret Keleş said, “Our state and institutions are making great efforts to heal the wounds of the earthquake. We organized a chess event for children.
