Kahta Chamber of Agriculture President Fatin Rüştü Zorlu Turanlı said that almond and walnut producers expect the tax rate on imported almonds and walnuts to be rearranged and increased.

President Turanlı stated that if the necessary arrangements are not made, the producers will have to remove the almond and walnut trees, and said:

“Our almond and walnut producers in Adıyaman, the earthquake city, which we have grown with a thousand and one ordeal and have a say in planting and production in Turkey, will have to remove almond and walnut trees from this year unless the tax rate on imported almonds and walnuts is rearranged and increased. ”

Stating that the almond import tax, which was 2017 percent until 43.2, was reduced to 31 percent on 2017 March 15, President Turanlı said, “In 2021, the rate was reduced to 2 percent. For this reason, almond producers have become unable to compete with imported almonds, which they produce with high inputs. Because although the input costs have increased by 400 percent, the domestic almond and walnut prices remain in place.” said.

President Turanlı said, “The cheap almonds and walnuts imported from abroad are sold in the markets in our country without knowing under what conditions they are produced, whether they are old, what drugs are used and their quality.” “These products have the potential to harm human health. This mistake should be abandoned as soon as possible and tens of thousands of almond and walnut producers should be considered and protected, not the profit of a few foreign traders.” used his statements.
