In this context, Minister Akar made investigations in the tent city of 2 people, which is under the coordination of AFAD, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense and NATO, in the Otençay Neighborhood near the Organized Industrial Zone.

Minister Akar, who received information about the tent city from NATO officials and military officials, stated that the works for the establishment of NATO tent cities are continuing.

Minister Akar stated that, among the works carried out in sectors, the installation of accommodation areas and general usage areas in the first sector has been completed.

“A tent city has emerged, which our citizens can easily use in terms of both accommodation and social areas. We will develop this further. While meeting the housing needs of our citizens on the one hand, the necessary environment is provided for them to benefit from social opportunities on the other hand. There are also large tents. We will establish Mehmetçik classrooms, starting from kindergarten and including university preparation courses, in close cooperation and coordination with our Minister of National Education, Mahmut Özer, with the necessary teacher support.”

The 100 thousand square meter area where Hatay NATO Tent City was built in Otençay Neighborhood was cleared in 8 days and made ready for construction.

There are units such as toilet and bathroom, kitchen, dining hall, laundry, sports event tent, health center, playground, prayer room, clean and waste water treatment facilities, administrative offices in the tent city.

Shelter tents resistant to minus 32 and 49 degrees have a heating and cooling system, a fire detection detector, a bed, and a bunk bed. There will also be Mehmetçik schools in the tent city, which also includes a medical support unit that will serve as a Role 2 level hospital.
