In our country, which is experiencing water stress due to climate change, the Water Efficiency Campaign is being launched with the objectives of preventing water loss in homes, workplaces and industry, establishing the legal infrastructure, using modern irrigation methods in agriculture, and raising public awareness.

The Water Efficiency Campaign will be carried out throughout the country under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife, Mrs. Emine Erdoğan. The mobilization will start with a meeting to be held at the Presidential Complex on January 31.

The “Water Efficiency Campaign” will cover all segments of the society, from farmers to industrialists, from students to housewives, from the private sector to all public institutions and organizations.

WATER EFFICIENCY STRATEGY DOCUMENT AND ACTION PLAN DOCUMENT TO BE ANNOUNCED

Water Efficiency Strategy Document and Action Plan Document within the Framework of Adaptation to Changing Climate will also be announced at the Water Efficiency Mobilization Promotion Meeting.

The document to be announced to the public includes the works to be carried out to reduce the water loss rate, which is 33,54 percent today, to 2033 percent by 25 and to 2040 percent by 10.

With the action plan, measures such as the use of geographic information systems, remote sensing and automation, the creation of isolated sub-regions and the recording of unregistered uses will be implemented.

evaporation will be prevented with night irrigation applications in agriculture

Within the scope of the action plan, product patterns will be planned in accordance with the water availability and drought conditions of the basins, transmission and distribution systems will be converted to closed systems, and modern irrigation methods will be used. Evaporation will be prevented by spreading the night irrigation practice, thus increasing the efficiency in agricultural irrigation.

As a result of all these practices, it is aimed to increase the agricultural irrigation efficiency, which is currently 49 percent, to 2030 percent by 60, to 2050 percent by 65, to 2070 percent by 70, and to 2100 percent by 75.

Within the scope of the action plan, legal, administrative and technical infrastructure will be strengthened in order to increase water efficiency in the industry. By increasing the recycling level of used water, clean production techniques will be applied and up to 50 percent of water will be recovered.

DAILY WATER CONSUMPTION PER PERSON WILL BE REDUCED TO 100 LITER

Training, information and awareness activities will be accelerated to ensure behavioral change in individual water use. In order to use water efficiently, devices, equipment and materials will be developed and their use will be expanded. The average daily water consumption per person, which is 146 liters today, will be gradually reduced to 2050 liters by 100.

WATER QUALITY WILL BE INCREASED IN GEDIZ BASIN

The Blue Gediz Action Plan, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to improve the quantity and quality of water resources in the Gediz Basin, will also be announced at the Water Efficiency Mobilization introductory meeting.

With the implementation of the Blue Gediz Action Plan, which is an example of an integrated watershed management approach, the water resources in the Gediz Basin will be improved in terms of quantity and quality, the destructive effects of floods and droughts will be minimized, and human health, biological diversity and ecosystem will be protected and the welfare level in the basin will be increased.
