'Uğur Mumcu Commemoration Concert' Held in Eskişehir

The Ugur Mumcu Memorial Concert, organized jointly by the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra and the City Theaters, in collaboration with the Saygun Philharmonic and Eskişehir Polyphonic Choir, won the appreciation of the art lovers of Eskişehir.

Journalist Uğur Mumcu was commemorated at the concert held at Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Atatürk Culture, Art and Congress Center.

In the first part of the concert, piano artist Emre Yavuz performed S. Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto. In the second part, composer Turgay Erdener's composition “Uğur Mumcu Cantati”, which he dedicated to Uğur Mumcu, was performed. Soprano Selva Erdener, soprano Ezgi Görkem Yıldırım, soprano Tuğba Mankal and tenor Emre Akkuş participated as guest soloists in the concert directed by Renkm Gökmen.

In the night, directed and narrated by Murat Atak, the artists of the City Theaters Zafer Ergül and Bilge Büyükerşen served as narrators.

In his speech at the end of the concert, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen said, “Uğur Mumcu is a separate monument for Eskişehir. Here again, I commemorate him with mercy.” said.

Speaking after Büyükerşen, Uğur Mumcu's wife Güldal Mumcu also thanked Yılmaz Büyükerşen, the Symphony Orchestra and Eskişehir.

In addition to the works performed at the night, Uğur Mumcu's life and thoughts were explained, accompanied by a video screening.

In the next program, the Symphony Orchestra will host the conductor Can Okan and the piano player Mertol Demirelli on the stage. The concert, in which WA Mozart's Piano Concerto No.23 and A. Dvorak's Symphony No.9 “From the New World” will be performed, will be presented to art lovers on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 20.00 at Atatürk Culture, Art and Congress Center.
