İzmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate has realized an investment of 60 million liras in Çiğli, within the scope of the works carried out throughout the city in order to prevent floods and odor problems. The President, who examined the works of the storm water and sewage system separation project in Yakakent, Güzeltepe, Maltepe and Köyiçi neighborhoods on site. Within the scope of the project, in addition to the production of 9 thousand meters of rain water and 4 thousand 500 meters of sewage lines, 400 meters of stream improvement is carried out. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, Yakakent, Güzeltepe, Maltepe and Köyiçi neighborhoods examined the works in the project that separates the rain water and sewerage system on site. President Soyer was accompanied by İZSU General Manager Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu and Çiğli Maltepe Neighborhood Headman Ramazan Arslan.

Soyer: “We saved the children from the rain”

President Tunç Soyer, stating that the project has reached the final stage, said, “It will be finished in a few days. The important thing is this: We started as an investment of 18 million, and it has grown to 60 million liras. While doing business, there is a difficulty in dealing with the economic crisis. The numbers are increasing unpredictably. Despite all this, we will continue to invest as Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Children playing in Maltepe Primary School in the back were victims of every rain. Today we are all smiling. We saved the children from the rain. These investments are not visible, these investments are under the ground. We built 200 kilometers of rainwater-wastewater separation channel. It's like smashing through Izmir. Such a big investment and cost is not only for saving the present but also for saving the future of the city, the Gulf. I am proud of all my employees,” he said.

Odor problem and overflow will be prevented

With the project that separates the rain water and sewerage system in Çiğli Yakakent, Güzeltepe, Maltepe and Köyiçi neighborhoods, the entire region will get rid of rain water and overflows from sewer lines will be prevented. The aim of the study is to prevent the odor problem in the region.
